摘要:
AbstractMany recent studies have focused on the nature and significance of father‐infant relationships. These studies show that men are as capable of behaving sensitively as women are, although cultural sex‐stereotypes usually prevent them from assuming a prominent role in child care. Nevertheless, most infants become attached to both their parents during the first year of life although they tend to establish primary relationships with their primary caretakers. During the second year of life, fathers encourage boys to focus attention on their fathers. This may facilitate the development of gender identity. In addition, the security of the father‐infant attachment relationship may affect the infant's orientation to novel social situations. Fathers also affect infants indirectly via their influence on the children's mo

摘要:
AbstractThis paper searches the literature for evidence of paternal responsiveness to and involvement with infants. The emerging picture of paternal involvement in human and subhuman species and in different cultural settings is one of great variability. No support is found for an hormonal explanation of the assumption that females are more responsive to babies than males are. It is suggested that sensitivity is a consequence rather than a precursor of involvement with infants. The distinction between paternal capacity and performance is emphasized and the discrepancy attributed to sex‐stereotyping pressure

摘要:
AbstractThis article addresses itself to helping psychiatrically disturbed fathers from repeating their pathological pasts on their infant children (0‐3). The mother‐infant dyad is uniquely reached via the father so that the bonds of human attachment can be protected and/or preserved. This is paralled by focusing on the social and emotional problems and adjustments of both parents. The 0‐3 year old is made a live interview participant. This seems to insure a positive opportunity for their unfolding cognitive and object‐related development to develop more healthfully. Their infantile behavior gives license to their parents to realize therapeutically their painful personal memories and makes material which was previously considered irretrievable, available for intervention and possible

摘要:
AbstractDealing with mental health in infancy as a specific clinical modality is relatively recent.1Preventive programs during infancy were mainly directed to promote cognitive development. Indeed, the review on prevention by Murphy and Frank2indicated that there are scarcely any programs directed specifically to improve mental health in infancy. This paper will describe a preventive program, conducted by the author, aimed specifically towards mental health aspects in infancy. It began in child guidance services in Jerusalem in 1977.

摘要:
AbstractThe Visting Parent Program is a support service for parents of newborn infants hospitalized at the Holden Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Ann Arbor. Selected parents, whose babies have gone home, become volunteers to visit new parents and provide support to help counteract the feelings of anxiety and isolation of the new parents. In this transcription of a workshop presentation at the 3rd Annual Conference of the Michigan Association for Infant Mental Health, the Holden social worker describes the program and 4 visiting parents tell of their feelings when their infant was at Holden and their experiences and strategies as visiting parents.

摘要:
AbstractParenting needs of 296 mothers in maternity wards were surveyed and examined on the basis of mother's age and employment status, number of previous children, and family social position. Half of the mothers felt they lacked sufficient information on parenting and nearly all indicated a desire for more information. The majority had obtained information on parenting from relatives. The information sources to be used in the future varied as a function of family social position and mother's employment status. A large majority of mothers indicated a desire for parent education programs in maternity wards and felt high school classes on parenting should be required for both girls and boys.

摘要:
AbstractThirty‐three twelve‐month‐old infants were divided into three groups based on the frequency and length of naturally‐occurring nontraumatic separations from mother during the first year. One group had experienced only brief separations when left with a babysitter for an evening. A second group had been left once or twice for an average of five days while parents vacationed. A third group had been left regularly and frequently during the daytime, usually because mother was working. These groups were compared on measures of reaction to separation and reunion, in the home and in the laboratory, at one year of age. No group differences were found on any of the dependent variables. It is suggested that the quality of substitute care is probably more important than separation per se in mediating the impact of employment or daycare on infant deve
