摘要:
AbstractMultiple factors contribute to violence, and only a multidisciplinary approach can be used to deal with this situation. Strategic errors committed by governments, such as not giving priority to basic health care or education, and foreign obligations producing severe economic recession, cause the people, especially children, to be subjected to political and social violence. Poverty and its associated risks are linked to violence. However, not all people living in poverty present problems of violence. Some results of living in poverty are high rates of child mortality, illiteracy, malnutrition, excessive population growth, street children, and the disintegration of families. Weak or nonexistent family ties can lead to frustration and hopelessness. In Brazil, an integrated action program was developed for at‐risk individuals and their families, based upon the idea of building and reinforcing family ties and intergenerational togetherness. Undernourished infants, street children, the handicapped, women subjected to violence, and neglected senior citizens received special interventions as part of the program describe

摘要:
AbstractThis article presents a framework for understanding the developmental significance of violence‐related trauma in the lives of young children. It emphasizes the importance of the distinction between acute and chronic trauma. Acute trauma is more readily dealt with through “psychological first aid” and a “therapy of reassurance.” Chronic trauma requires a more systematic reconstruction of the child's “social map” of the world. The socioeconomic and demographic correlates of violent trauma predict an accumulation of risk factors in the child's life that compounds the problem of developmental disability. The problem community violence poses for the child must be understood in the larger context of greater risk for family disruption (including less than secure attachment) as well as domestic violence, poverty, and minority group status. The increasing incidence and prevalence of community violence poses a major challenge to the mental healt

摘要:
AbstractBasic theoretical paradigms and constructs are identified within the extant literature that may usefully contribute to comprehending the effect of war upon young children as well as the nature of personal, situational, and familial moderating factors. These concerns are illustrated with empirical data regarding infants and toddlers and their response to the recent Gulf War. Potential applications of these heuristic models are explicated for the study of war as well as for the design of preventive and remedial programming.

摘要:
AbstractLewis and Michalson's (l983a) theory of emotional development, and their related measurement technique for assessing emotional states of infants and young children, need independent validation, particularly for applied usage. Twenty‐eight toddlers (mean age, 31 months) were observed in a seminaturalistic setting. Emotional displays and Lewis and Michalson (LM) scores were coded independently. Some individual cross‐contextual stability was found for LM scores, which also varied in mean level across these different contexts. Regarding concurrent validity, microanalytically coded emotional displays were related to LM sco

摘要:
AbstractService delivery systems for maltreating parents need to be comprehensive, integrated, and coordinated in order to address the ecological, developmental, and psychotherapeutic needs of maltreating families. This article presents a center‐based, intensive model of intervention for multiproblem, maltreating families. The program described addresses the needs of the entire family; incorporates the evaluation and treatment of the child's, as well as the parent's, development; and provides services in a multifamily group milieu. The following interventions are integrated in the treatment approach: (1) family milieu approach, (2) assistance with functioning of the “parental ego,” (3) traditional therapies, and (4) developmental‐structuralist approach to parent‐child interaction. Challenges encountered and solutions employed in working with maltreating families are discussed. A detailed case study is presented to illustrate the types of intervent
