摘要:
This final editorial of the 1996 Eminent Editor series continues the debates surrounding the processes of writing qualitative research for publication. Trudy Rudge RN RPN BA(Hons) is Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Nursing, University of South Australia with a background in acute care, psychiatric nursing and community areas of nursing. She is completing her doctoral studies on an exploration of wound care procedures in nursing using poststructural theories to illuminate this taken-for-granted nursing practice. Trudy has been a contributor and reviewer for Contemporary Nurse so I asked her to discuss how nurses can represent their clinical research speaking from the political platforms of feminism, praxis-oriented research and poststructuralism. Her use of the imagery of unpacking a library as a representation of unpacking clinical practice is a telling example of the stylistic discursive possibilities of writing these research genres.

摘要:
AbstractIn this exploration of the history of the sex/gender debate within feminist literature, I argue that the meanings of both words are socially constructed and hence the Words can be interchanged. This poststructuralist view is based on the work of Foucault. The implications of an understanding of femaleness and maleness as socially constructed historical categories, and not natural givens, are explored. Our ideas about sexual constructs affect our views of ourselves and others, and hence this debate impacts on nursing practice and research, and the lives of those people for whom we care.

摘要:
AbstractControversy about induced abortion is caused by issues such as the moral, medical and legal definitions of viability; the intrinsic value of human life; and the rights of the foetus versus the rights of the mother. These issues pose ethical dilemmas for nurses seeking to enhance and support the autonomy of women who wish to have an abortion. Nurses are also obligated to adhere to their professional Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct, which are founded on preserving life and not destroying it.

摘要:
AbstractCrucial issues related to the transition from university student to registered nurse are addressed, through a review of the literature. The considerable literature in this area indicates three distinct approaches in examining this question: there are personal and professional deficits which the new graduate must make up, the formal content of the university curriculum is deficient and must be replaced, the socio-political and professional contexts of practice constrains beginning practice. Each of these approaches is examined here in the expectation that uncovering these issues will encourage employers and educators to work together to resolve some of the current conflicts and difficulties inherent in the transition from university student to registered nurse. Various models of transition in current use are then explored, since support for the graduate is paramount for provision of a cost effective and efficient nursing service in a rapidly changing health service environment.

摘要:
AbstractMandatory Continuing Professional Education is a major issue for nurses in Australia today. The overseas experience is that MCPE has been in force for nursing in half of the United States for twenty years and has just been implemented in the United Kingdom. The major arguments against it are that it violates the principles of adult education and professional behaviour. The major arguments for it are that it protects the public against incompetence and voluntary CPE does not work. The major issues are its effectiveness, cost, educational implications, impact on the workplace and methods of regulation.
