摘要:
AbstractModifled Simplex Search Procedure (MSSP) is amodification- generalization of the Nelder a nd Mead simplex method (NMSM). In MSSP, more than one vertex can be reflected ; and the techniques handling reflection, expansion ,contraction, and shrink age in this situation have been successfuIly developed, The number of vertices to be reflected is a functionofη, a new parameter . By specifying a sufficiently large value (maximum effectiveηor larger) for this parameter , MSSP reduces to the Nelder and Mead algorithm. The MSSP algorithm with a recommendedηvalue proves to be superior to NMSM and, in high dimensional cases ,to the Fletcher and PoweIl variable metric method (FPVM).The pro posed method MSSP is unique in that it is a direct search method particularly
good for high dimensional problems and is suitable to be inc1uded in an oottmtzation package because of its capability to search in complicated terrain, its different style of searching, and its smaIl program size.

摘要:
AbstractDue to the high cost of obtaining and maintaining a large scale computing centre , time sharing of computer resources remains a reality for many businesses and institutions. While data has been available for some time , as to the reliabilty performance of various computer systems, for users there seems to be discrepancies between the levels of computersystem reliability performance and the actual computing time available to them. It is theaim of this paper to explain this discrepancy by simulation and graphical techniques and in this way provide a basis for determining optimal terminal service availability from a user's a perspective.

摘要:
AbstractSimulation models of manufacturing systems can realistically represent system performance and aid in solving production scheduling problems, determining the job sequence and machine loading policy. In the design stage, they help when making layout decisions, dec iding appropriate resources such as the number of machines, and deciding among different material handling devices. For system control, scheduling rules and policles can be addressed. The material handling component greatly influences both the layout and schedul ing alternatives. Often the material handling is modeled as lnput/output to the manufacturlng process with little emphasis on the specific characteristics of the transportation device. Significant developments in sophisticated material handling devices, usually incorporated in automated manufacturlng celIs, demand the inclusion of performance measures, asweIl as the lnfluence on the overall system performance, of such devlces. This paper describes the development of a simulation generator for automated manufacturing cells. The simulation modelis structured to captures pecific design and control characteristlcs of a manufacturing cell to facilitate the evaluatlon of alter native design characteristics and control policies. To accomplish this, the modells constructed from the process level and is integrated through a set of station sub-models to configure a cellular structure. The manufacturing cell sare interconnected by a material handling component. The model can incorporate a part carrousel, transporters(such as robots), a shuttle cart or a roller convey or as the transportation devices(s). The simulation generator is designed to provlde a developmental interface between the specificities of model construction (and operation)and the engineering data (and analysis) required for design and control. Although the model is capable of capturing a great level of detail in each manufacturing cell, emphasis is placed on the design and selection of the material handling component. The difficulty in modeling this level of detail, for complex and/or large systems, is overcome by using a simulation model generator. The concept of such a generator is to translate a development-oriented description of the system into a simulation program using an existing simulation language. With the development of simulation languages that can beentered on a miorocomputer, and other user-oriented features of the microcomputer, an enhanced user-model interface is possible.

摘要:
AbstractThe structure of the state space of distributed, nonlinear systems, i.e. the solutionspace of parameter dependent partial differential and integral equations, can be analyzedby recently emerged, powerful techniques of computer-aided functional analysis. Pre-eminent is discretization by the method of sub domains, finite element basis functions, and Galerk in's method of weighted residuals: for steady states the result is large sets of nonlinear algebraic equations. Free boundaries and irregular domains are handled efficientlyby appropriate spatial parametrization and flexible isoparametrie mapping into a computational domain. The algebraic equation set is solved by Newton's method or an efficient variant; because the matrices from partial differential equations are large, sparse and structured, vectorized frontal solvers are cost-effective on advanced computers. Families of solutions are generated by continuation in parameters, with special adaptive techniques toget around singular states(bifurcation and turning points). Stability of steady states is examined by analyzing response to normal modes of small disturbances, i.e. eigenanalysis from linear stability theory. The account here is by two examples drawn from electrohydro statics and magnetohydros tatics.

AbstractThe paper presents a technique for selecting the parameters of tuned stabilizers in two diesel-alternator sets in parallel on isolated network. The influence of the fly wheel inertia and of the tuned stabilizer on power oscillations, due to thediesel pulsating torque, is analied.

摘要:
AbstractDuring the last decade, there has been a considerable activity in the development of probabilistic model1ing and eva1uating techniques for power system re1iabi1ity eva1uation.During the same period, a continuous deve10pment of better techniques for assessing transient stabi1ity in power systems has been reported but the bulk of this work is based on deterministic mode1s. Very litt1e has been pub1ished on the probabi1istic nature of the basic functions which affect the transient stabi1ity performance of power systems. Scope ofthis paper is to describe the developed computational methods for eva1uating the probabi1ity indices of transient stabi1ity for the Hel1enic Transmission Power System.

摘要:
AbstractRay tracing simulations of focusing (parabolictrough) and nonfocusing (clrcular cyl1ndrical) line concentrating solar collectors with tubular absorbers were performed. The energy absorbed by the receiver tube for incident solar beam radiation was calculated over the length of a given day and shown as a function of the solar hour angle. East-west and north-south orientations were compared. The effects of siz1ng and geometry of the collector components was investigated for each collector .Simulations were also performed with varying collector reflector rim angles .
