摘要:
abstractA k–to–I–out–of–n system is one in which no fewer than k and no more than lout of n units are to ftmction for the successful operation of the system. Examples of k–to–I–out–of–n systems are found in communication, multiprocessor, and transportation systems. Such systems are very general and include the parallel, series, and N–Modular Redundancy (NMR) systems as special cases. The authors discuss the optimization issues of a k–to–I–out–of–n system and also derive an expression for the mean time between failure (MTBF) of the system.

摘要:
abstractIn this paper a variation in optimal replacement technique (OPT) for multiprocessor environment will be introduced, and practical way of implementing the new memory replacement technique (K-OPT) will be discussed. Results of a simulation are presented; limitations of using number of processors, groupsize, main memory size are also presented for minimum system overhead

摘要:
abstractThis work details the implementation aspects of incorporating simple water-quality models into a knowledge-based microcomputer system in order to evaluate the impact on river water quality of mine efnuent discharges. Information on the flow data and efnuent concentration are readily displayed using microcomputer technologies. ll1ese implementation aspects are important for evaluation of model results with observed data so that decisions to use the most appropriate model for a given situation can be made.

摘要:
abstractA simple discrete time, open compartmental, and deterministic mathematical model is developed and used to analyze the costs and benefits of voluntary confidential screening (followed by voluntary educational counselling of HIV positives) aimed at slowing the AIDS epidemic in the population of homosexual, bisexual, and heterosexual males and their companion females. Screening is modelled as an influential change on the infection transmission rate between identified HIV-positive individuals and susceptible contacts. It incorporates the efficacy of information on sero-positivity and/or sero-negativity and the optional counselling program in preventing transmission of AIDS. Using the model, the author compiles numerical projections for the next decade and use these to evaluate the effect of different screening policies on the natural behavior of the AIDS epidemic.

摘要:
abstractThis article describes both the stochastic and detemlinistic approaches that can be taken when deriving a mathematical model of the behavior of a system. The relative merits and drawbacks of each technique are discussed and it is shown that stochastic modelling offers potential for online building energy management and control. This is rlemonstlinted by application to a test cell system. where an advanced, predictive control strategy is implemented for internal air temperature regulation; it is found to offer superior performance combined with savings in energy, as compared with conventional on/off and PID methods. The difficulties encountered when attempting to deterministically model stochastic systems (such as buildings) are highlighted with respect to control, and it is concluded that the dcterministic approach is well–suited to design–stage system evaluation by simulation. The re1ationship of this to model–based controller design is described.

摘要:
abstractHydrostatic transmissions are widely used in locomotion power trains of offroad vehicles. The general dynamic model of a reference configuration (capable of a variable number 01 pumps and motors) can be divided into two subsets describing“power”and“control”interactions. A special class of controls (often named”automotive”) is able to handle the degrees of freedom of engine and transmission, having as primary input a single operator directive (usually related to the engine governor setting). Their simplest implementation features a dependence of the pump(s) displacement on engine speed (motor(s) fixed at full displacement). Beyond this level, several improvements can be devised, either acting on the pump itself or introducing the variable displacement of hydraulic motor(s) as additional degree(s) of freedom.

摘要:
abstractThe authors develop and present an integrated, intelligent computer framework for the analysis and synthesIs of mechanical dynamic systems. This framework couples the mathematical modelling and simulation techniques with the qualitative reasoning and inference structures. The system Is built based on the objectoriented knowledge representation concept. The major emphasis is on application program integration, graphic management, performance Interpretation, fuzzy-logic-based tuning, and dual mode user Interface. The basic concept and capabilities of this framework arc demonstrated through two vehicle suspension design examples. This approach is an important step toward the development of an automated system for engineering design applications.
