摘要:
AbstractIn this paper, a simple technique to identify the time constant and deadtime of the well known first order plus deadtime model of a continuous process based on the closed loop damped oscillatory load response of the process is given. The effectiveness of the technique has been verified through computer simulation. The proposed technique is useful for processes that are slow or those that cannot tolerate cycling and is especially suitable for autotuning PID controller applications.

摘要:
AbstractThis paper presents a technique for the computer-aided design for synthesis of discrete controllers based on some called special compensation methods, namely, high-gain design and gain-insensitive designs and Truxal's and algebraic methods. The pole-placement synthesis method is also included in the software package which has a modular structure. Each module has a specific task and can be compiled separately after editing to correct programming errors. This philosophy makes implementation extremely easy.In structuring the modules, both the expected hardware implementation facilities and ease of programming are taken into account. The designed algorithm may be extended to the adaptive control case.

摘要:
AbstractA computer model to study the response of an aircraft to disturbances of control elements is presented. The general nondimensional small disturbance equations of motion are obtained in the form of linearized first-order differential equations. The equations are written in vector form, and are denoted as the state equation. The Z- transform is used to obtain the recursion relation, which is the solution of the state equation. The numerical model is used to provide an illustration for airplane response to various simulated control faults during maneuvering or straight flight. It is concluded from the study that disturbances of the three control elements tend to activate several aircraft stability modes, some of which may be unstable. In addition, the fault configuration seems to have a clear effect on the aircraft response within the fault-time domain.

AbstractEach gene population F (i.e. a set of DNA sequences) can be considered as a language F on the two letter alphabet {R,Y) (R=purine: adenine or guanine; Y=pyrimidine: cytosine or thymine) issued from the EMBL gene database (release 21). For each language F, an autocorrelation function p is defined associating to each i in the range 11,99] the probability pi(F) of occurrence of the two same factors YRY separated by i letters over all words in F. The associated curve C(F): i->pi(F) reveals in the first part two properries naturally associated with the biological features of the gene population F:- Property 1: a periodicity P3 (modulo 3 periodicity) associated with the maximal value pg(F) if F is a protein coding gene population.- Property 2: a periodicity P2 (modulo 2 periodicity) associated with the maximal value p3(F) if F is a noncoding gene population.In the second part, we, prove that:(1) The rational language (YRY(N)g)* (where (N)g is any word of length 6) associated with random insertions and deletions of factors of three letters leads to rite property 1.(2) The rational language (YRY(N)3)* (where (N)3 is any word of length 3) associated with random insertions and deletions of single letter leads to the property 2.Therefore, the two types of words YRY(N)g and YRY(N)3 constitute small primitive DNA strings which may have a central function in DNA sequence evolution.

AbstractMany signal-processing problems being investigated for radar and other applications have very large computation requirements. The need for high throughput and a programmable real-time implementation for these applications can be met using parallel processing techniques. The Cluster Array Processor!CAP), a prototype parallel processor, is being developed at the MITRE Corporation specifically for signal processing applications, where the computations are frequently very regular, with the data being processed in blocks, and the control is data- independent. The performance of a parallel signal processor must be evaluated with respect to two sets of performance measures: signal processing measures and array processor measures. Array processor measures are those that apply to general-purpose processing such as bus utilization, control overhead and processing element utilization, while signal processing measures are derived from the real-time processing requirements inherent in the overall signal-processing problem.This paper presents the results of a performance evaluation of the prototype Cluster Array Processor that was accomplished using a simulation model of the parallel processor architecture. The simulation, an uninterpreted behavioral model written in VHDL, was developed in order to evaluate the processor design and to assess algorithm-to-architecture mappings. A brief description of the CAP architecture and the simulation model are followed by a discussion of the simulated performance of the CAP for a sidelobe cancellation technique that uses the Gram-Schmidt orthogonalization algorithm. Results of the simulation were verified against actual prototype performance.

摘要:
AbstractMany old Fortran programs are still heavily used though often very inefficient in use of computer resources. This paper suggests a graphical approach to understanding an existing program and several techniques for speeding up a program through improved event handling routines, faster numerical methods, and better file handling. A detailed case study is presented of a Fortran program that was significantly speeded up by relatively simple changes to its event handling routines that reduced queue handling from more than 30% of total run time to less than 2%.
