SummaryMany contemporary philosophers of language believe that realist metaphysics and a beha‐viouristic approach to language are incompatible, debate centring on which is to be given up. In this paper I argue that no incompatibility has been shown to exist. In the first section I attempt to give both a characterization of, and an argument for, behaviourism. Then I attempt to characterize realism more generally than is often done, evaluating the work of Dummett, Quine, Putnam and Wittgenstein, as recently interpreted, in that light.

SummaryThis study aims to define, through a technical analysis of some crucial problems dealt with inThe Structure of Appeurance, the definitional foundations of Nelson Goodman's realistic constructivism. More particularly, the analysis of the correlation between thedefiniensand thedefiniendurnillustrates the methodological and epistemological pluralism which Goodman adopts and defends in a very consistent way.

SummaryWe can find a relation in the world between perceivable objects like rabbits and uses of expressions, so we can define a determinate semantic relation between an expression and such an object. (Pace Quine). The relation which we find in the world is such that some philosophers may say that we should not define any semantic relation in terms of it; but the dispute here is really verbal. We can admit that the relation in question is at all significant only because other facts of a sort more familiar to philosophers of language obtain, without giving up the idea that the relation is significant.RésuméOn peut, quoi qu'en dise Quine, découvrir une relation dans le monde entre des objets tels que des lapins et l'usage de certaines expressions, et ainsi définir une relation sémantique entre une expression et un tel objet.

SummaryIn this article I am criticizing Davidson's claim that psychological description and explanation are impossible without a strong assumption of rationality of the subject. I am trying to dispute his thesis that presupposition of coherence between propositional attitudes must be treated as a constitutive principle of psychology which fundamentally differentiates this science from physics and precludes the existence of strict psycho‐physical laws. Philosophical and empirical arguments are brought forward tho show that Davidson overestimates the role of rationality considerations in psychology.
