摘要:
The effect of high levels of CO2at 20 or 40°C for 10 or 16 h on botrytis storage rot in beans (Phaseolus vulgarisL.) was assessed. Beans were inoculated withBotrytis cinereaspores, exposed to the treatments, and stored in air for 5 days after the treatments to allow for disease expression and to assess quality. Air at 40°C for 16 h gave complete control of botrytis storage rot. High levels of CO2(60%) were not effective and adversely affected respiration rate, firmness, and colour of the beans.

摘要:
In in vitro tests, chitosan at 1, 2, and 4% (w/v) significantly reduced the growth ofSclerotinia sclerotiorumon potato dextrose agar plates. The effect of chitosan coating on sclerotinia rot of carrots (Daucus carotaL.) held at 22°C was also investigated. Carrot roots were coated with chitosan solutions (2 or 4%) and inoculated with mycelial plugs ofS. sclerotiorumculture. After 5 days of storage, chitosan at both rates reduced significantly the incidence of rot (from 88 to c. 28%) and also the lesion size (from 26 to c. 12 mm) of the rot on roots. Microscope studies revealed that fungal mycelium exposed to chitosan appeared to be deformed and dead, whereas untreated mycelium was normal in appearance.

摘要:
‘White Delight’ is a new, high yielding, maincrop potato (Solarium tuberosumL.) cultivar suitable for the fresh market and crisp manufacture. Tubers are round—oval in shape and have white flesh. This variety has moderate resistance to late blight (Phytophthora infestans) and to bacterial soft rot (Erwiniasp.).
