Case studies of three students of different ages with different types and degrees of word finding disorders are presented. One student is at the beginning of his school career, one has been in school for 7 years, and the third individual is a young adult who left school after completing only 11 grades. Each student’s word finding profile and characteristics are presented as well as the impact of the disorder upon school performance particularly in the area of reading. Recommendations are made for intervention involving collaboration between speech-language pathologists and educator

The object of the study was the acoustic analysis of voice in individuals with alcohol addictions. The analysis showed an increase in medium and maximum jitter values, weakening of signal harmonic structure and an increase in periodical course occurrence with noise. All parameters of voice analysis in patients with alcohol addiction were compared with those of the control group.

One of the most common complications of cleft palate patients is the high frequency of otitis media episodes that they present, due to eustachian tube dysfunction. This is not only a problem for the otolaryngologist who must handle these patients, but just as well for the phoniatrician, who must evaluate and rehabilitate the speech and language disorders which can be enhanced by conductive hearing loss. Thus, we designed an isometric exercise to achieve an artificial drainage of the secretions produced in the middle ear, by means of opening the lumen of the eustachian tube, which, when done frequently enough, proved to be an excellent way to prevent secretions from remaining long enough in the middle ear cavity so as to have a secondary infection, that would lead to otitis media and subsequent conductive hearing loss. Isometric exercise also develops the muscles of each hemi-uvula.

The incidence of voice disturbances was investigated in children living under different social environments. Two groups of children at the age of 12–13 years were examined, with a total number of 362 examinees. The first study group consisted of children living in a rural environment (204 examinees) and the second group consisted of children from an urban area (158 examinees). The state of the voice and phonatory system was investigated, revealing 3.92% of children with voice problems within the rural group and 43.67% within the city group. In order to clarify the nature of the physiological adjustment for the production of whispering, physiological studies were conducted on the glottal and supralaryngeal adjustments during whispering. The results indicate that for the production of whispering there is a necessary relationship between glottal adjustment and supralaryngeal adjustment in terms of the coordination between posterior cricoarytenoid muscle (PCA) and thyropharyngeus muscle (TP). Also, there might be a function switch in our brain which enables the speaking mode to change from ordinary to whispering, using the activation of PCA and TP, as a result of human evolution.
