摘要:
The driving force behind the restructuring of American health care delivery is the perceived inability of employers to continue to bear the escalating costs of health care. With the failure of governmental reform, restructuring has evolved to the free market in the form of managed care, which is exposing the central cost problem—enormous overcapacity of physicians and hospitals. Policies designed to hasten the end of overcapacity are called for in contrast to many being presently pursued, which are likely to prolong it.

摘要:
Salary comparisons of male and female ACHE members in 1989 showed that men earned nearly $16,000 more than women.Controlling for race and region, age and experience accounted for most of the explained variation. Women earned significantly more if they had more male mentors, a spouse willing to relocate for their career advancement, or an employer whose policies accommodated families such as flextime and if they themselves socialized informally with other health care executives.

摘要:
The effectiveness of physician involvement in hospital management may depend on how physicians actually interact with nurses and administrators in management committees and other forums. The study on which this article is based used the theory of cooperative and competitive goal interdependence to analyze problem solving between physicians and nursing administrators.

摘要:
A survey and three case studies were conducted of hospitals in Alabama, Georgia, and Florida affected by flooding in July 1994. Our findings suggest that the existence or quality of hospital or community plans for disaster did not seem related to the effect of the flood or the hospitals' response to flooding.Recommendations for preparation and problem avoidance in future flood disasters are provided.

摘要:
A decision-making tool called “Responsibility Charting” empowered a middle management team made up of surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and administrators to clarify their roles and responsibilities in relation to one another, work together more effectively with senior management, and fill a surgery management position that had been vacant for two years.
