摘要:
This paper reviews the development and literature on family sculpture and the variety of applications that have evolved. The author then describes his experience with family sculpture in the training of family therapists and suggests indications for its use with families. The method is presented and illustrated with three case studies. In the first case the sculpture is done by three family members, each giving a different perspective. Videotape playback is then used to give them feedback on each of these perspectives. In the second, the sculpture is done by the teenager in the family. Here intensification is applied and the insights from this are then used to develop a strategic intervention. The third case demonstrates a family of origin sculpture with one member of the family.Videotape playback to family and therapist provides an added dimension for reviewing the options for change created in the sculpture. These options are generated in the sculpture which provides a family map indicating what changes are necessary. The options for change can be enacted by the family members and then translated by the therapist via prescription of tasks to change the family system as it functions on a day to day basis.

摘要:
The case presented is of a young man hospitalized twice for schizophrenic disorder before the commencement of family therapy. The therapy which dealt with the family system, specific pathological communication patterns and intra‐psychic conflicts, is discussed. As the parents of the young man confronted their inter‐ and intra‐personal problems, the function of his illness disappeared, along with his psychotic symptoms. While demonstrating the process of psychotherapy, the thesis that psychotic decompensation in young people often signifies severe family dysfunction is also presented. Accepting the ‘identified’ patient as such and ignoring the family dynamics may serve to create a chronic schizophreni

摘要:
Family Therapy emphasises the family as the basic unit of study and treatment for psychological problems. Family Therapists view the symptoms of an individual as predominantly meaningful within the context of his family relational system, and place emphasis on interactional processes occurring between family members. As part of any psychiatric assessment, a systematic written description of family functioning, brief or lengthy depending on the circumstances, is required. Clinicians' descriptions suffer excessively from idiosyncrasy and incompleteness. Review of the literature revealed the lack of an accepted systematic method for describing family interaction. The Family Interaction Summary Format was devised to fill this gap. This paper describes the logic of the Format and is a guide to its use.

摘要:
The training of psychiatric nurses as behavioural nurse therapists has been successfully established in the U.K. by Marks et al. However, their approach has a number of theoretical and practical limitations, such as a rigid adherence to an illness model of psychiatric disorder. This paper describes and evaluates an approach to the training of psychiatric nurses based on systems theory. Four nurses were trained in the use of Spouse‐aided Therapy, a time‐limited, goal‐orientated outpatient approach to the treatment of married psychiatric patients with persisting psychological disorders. Patients' spouses are involved throughout therapy, with the aim of making full use of resources within marriage which may facilitate patients' recovery. Questionnaire and anecdotal data from 12 patients showed a mean fall of 30% in patients' symptoms and a mean fall of 20% in marital dissatisfaction after therapy. The pattern of results supported a systems theory interpretation of ou

摘要:
The drama of the adolescent overdose is a daily feature of many hospital casualty or accident and emergency departments. The roles of some of the actors and some of the ploys involved in this drama are discussed. Labelling the adolescent as “overdose” or “drug abuser” does little justice to the complex factors involved in this personal and interpersonal crisis presentation. This is a drama in the growth through adolescence to maturity and separation from the family of
