摘要:
AbstractThe UV methodology previously outlined has been applied to assess the influence of microwave heating on the migrational behaviour of plastics. Because the method indicates the way migration changes as a function oftwhen measured at constant temperature, its exponential relationship as a function of temperature (t) can be evaluated as well. Hence, the behaviour as a function of time while temperature changes are taking place can be calculated.In the current experiments the migrational effects of PET in water were studied as the temperature was raised by microwaves. No influence due the microwaves was found.

AbstractThe objective of this study was to apply the finite element method (FEM) to modelling the simultaneous oxygen diffusion and chemical reaction in a packaged liquid food. Cylindrical high‐density polyethylene (HDPE) packages, top and bottom insulated, were designed to contain apple juice or water containing vitamin C. Oxygen consumption was monitored by a micro‐oxygen electrode. A first‐order chemical reaction and its reaction rate constant 7.3 ± 10‐3/min (in terms of O2consumption) was determined in apple juice with added vitamin C. The simultaneous permeation‐diffusion reaction process was modelled by finite element block types developed by Swanson Analysis Systems. Inc. AbstractThe objectives of this study were to apply the finite element method (FEM) to the computer simulation of oxygen diffusion in a liquid food system contained in a permeable package, and to apply a mathematical lumped method to evaluate the integrity of a permeable package. The cylindrical package (2.425cm radius) was made of polyethylene (2 mil) with solid acrylic at the top and base. A micro‐oxygen electrode was introduced from the top surface, 1.37 cm from the radial wall. Changes in dissolved oxygen were recorded using a data acquisition system. Experimental data were compared to predicted values obtained using a finite element technique computer model (Engineering Analysis Systems Verification and Theoretical Manuals, Swanson Analysis Systems, Inc., Houston, PA). Acceptable predictions were obtained for two systems: a cylindrical permeable package and a semi‐infinite impermeable container.
