AbstractBased on force analysis, the seal strength obtained from the peel test is equivalent to the product of the burst pressure and half of the plate separation obtained from the burst test. To verify this relationship peel tests and burst tests were performed using MRE pouches. Good agreement between the observed and predicted values was observed when the peeling times of the two tests were the same. 摘要:
AbstractA model describing the O2consumption by fresh produce in a closed system is proposed. The model uses a matrix representation as a new mathematical interpretation based on a physiological approach, in agreement with the observed phenomena but contrary to current models. This is a prime condition necessary to elaborate a more complete model concerning the behaviour of fresh produce packaged under modified atmospheres. Such a model is under study at this time.

摘要:
AbstractSorption isotherms of three polymeric mixtures were constructed with the use of a computerized inverse gas chromatographic technique at temperatures of 32°C and 50°C. It was observed that the water uptake increases with decreasing temperature and increasing amount of plasticizer in the polymeric mixtures. The sorption data were applied to the BET and GAB isotherm models. It was found that the two‐parameter BET equation fits the sorption data up to a water activity value of 0.6 and the three‐parameter GAB equation fits the sorption data up to a water activity value of 0.7. The thermodynamics of the above interaction were studied further by application of the Zimm‐Lundberg cluster theory. Results indicate a strong tendency for water molecules to cluster even at low water activity

AbstractA test method for measuring the strength of the seal on a flexible bottle is proposed. The method measures seal strength as the compression force applied to the side of the bottle required to make the seal fail. The technique has the advantage of using standard equipment and reproduced failure conditions as closely as possible. AbstractThe outstanding chemical and physical qualities of polypropylene (PP) combined with an attractive price have made it one of the protagonists in the food‐packaging industry. Like other polymers, however, PP tends to lose some of its constituents to the packed product, by migration, and when submitted to thermal, oxidative or radiation stresses PP starts to degrade. These processes are of concern when food is packed in the plastic, for they can cause PP to impart off‐odour and off‐taste to the packed product and in the worst case can give rise to toxicity of the food.
