摘要:
AbstractTumor‐associated antigens were demonstrated in concentrated and dialyzed urine of several sarcoma patients with large tumor burden. The antigens were detected by complement fixation using autologous and allogeneic sera from sarcoma patients. The antigenic activity in three patients who were studied sequentially disappeared after surgical ablation of tumor. In two of these three patients, the antigenic activity reappeared before tumor recurrence. The reactivity of the sarcoma sera to the urine could be abolished by absorption of the sera with human sarcoma cells but not by normal human liver cells, which indicates that the same antigen was present in the urine and on biopsy‐obtained sarcoma cells. Urine from cancer patients with high tumor burden may be useful as a source of tumor‐associated antigen. Further studies on the presence of these antigens in urine of sarcoma patients may lead to a method for detecting subclinical tumor recur

摘要:
AbstractA 52‐year‐old man developed synchronous squamous‐cell carcinoma of the larynx and middle one‐third of the esophagus following treatment for Hodgkin disease. This patient fell into the subgroup of patients treated by intensive radiation therapy followed by intensive chemotherapy. The link between the therapy and subsequent carcinoma is suggestive. Long‐term follow‐up care of patients with Hodgkin disease demands continuing evaluation for this possible c

摘要:
AbstractThe relative frequency of lymphocytes with surface immunoglobulins (sIgM, sIgG, sIgA) was studied in breast‐cancer patients' axillary lymph nodes by the immunofluorescence technique. The study encompassed a total of 105 patients, most of whom had infiltrating ductal carcinoma (IDC). The results have indicated a significantly higher ( p<0.005) average percentage of sIgM positive lymphocytes in lymph nodes in the group of IDC patients with lymph‐node metastasis. Shortterm followup was available for a limited number of patients, but no conclusions were reached with respect to sIgM positive lymphocytes. It is suggested that evaluation of axillary lymph‐node and peripheral blood lymphocyte subpopulations for each cancer patient would provide new information which could aid in determining the extent of the disease process. Moreover, such information may be of assistance in decisions of therapeutic modalities, detection of occult metastasis, and prediction of prog
