摘要:
The sea boundary between two states with opposite or adjacent coasts is defined by the median line between baselines realized on shore lines. As defined in UNCLOS (United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea), every point of the median line must be equidistant from the nearest points on the baselines from which the breadth of the territorialseas of each ofthe two states is measured. The coordinates of breakpoints of the median line are computed based on known coordinates of baseline points on the shores. What is the precision of computed coordinates? Here we study the error propagation on two reference surfaces: (1) plane and (2) sphere. Moreover, four approaches to breakpoint determination are investigated. Algorithms for computation of the covariance matrix of median line breakpoints both on sphere and plane were developed.

摘要:
The underwater position of the beacon determined using the conventional mode of the short-baseline acoustic positioning system (SBL system) is usually incorrect due to the inaccuracy of underwater-measured sound speed, which is affected by the environment. This article presents a corrected mode of SBL system to offer a precise solution for the underwater beacon position. The corrected mode using the formulation of Euclidean geometry converges quickly and efficiently, obtaining the precise position of the beacon. Finally, a simulation of coring missions of a vessel is presented to verify the accuracy of the corrected mode of the SBL system.

摘要:
The mean sea surface topography in the Baltic Sea and adjacent waters is reliably known in the Nordic height system NH 60. Using this knowledge we estimate differences between NH 60, based on the Amsterdam zero point, and Russian, Polish, and German height systems along the southeastern coast of the Baltic Sea, based on the Kronstadt zero point. The differences agree within a few centimeters. We also make a simple study of the mean sea level difference between Kronstadt and Amsterdam (which is found to have been approximately 25 cm when sea level was still to be seen there).

摘要:
A bathymetric model for the South China Sea is computed from altimeter-derived gravity anomalies, shipborne depths, ETOPO5, and the GMT shorelines using a procedure that includes downward continuation, linear regression, and data merging. The model best fits the GMT shorelines and is a compromise between smoothness, degree of agreement with ship data, and the seafloor features we wish to retain. The model is proven useful in studying the tectonics and modeling the ocean tide of the South China Sea.
