摘要:
The alkaloids are a structurally diverse group of secondary chemical compounds which are widely distributed in plants. Man has long employed alkaloids in pharmacy, food preparation and as poisons but they play a wider role as chemical messengers between the plants which produced them and an array of organisms.

摘要:
Nettle water (aqueous extract ofUrtica dioica) was analyzed for mineral constituents (N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, Fe, B, Mn, Zn, Cu, Mo) and various chemical and physical parameters (pH, conductivity, buffer capacity, redox potential, dry matter, bacteria, auxin). Nettles were collected for extraction from three habitats (deciduous forest, meadow, dunghill) in May, June and August. A comparison was made between nettle water made from fresh and dry nettles, and effects of six month's storage of extracts were determined.

摘要:
Use of rotenone and pyrethrum to organically control codling moth (Laspeyresiapomonella(L.)) at different population densities was examined for efficacy and economics. Conventional treatments of azinphosmethyl gave the best control at all population densities. Only when codling moth populations were low could rotenone or pyrethrum provide adequate control. The highest degree of organic control was achieved with a mixture of rotenone and pyrethrum. Economic assessments indicated that the higher costs of organic production could be offset by direct grower retailing to consumers of organic produce. These results suggest that economical organic codling moth control can be achieved in orchards of low and medium codling moth density provided growers take full advantage of premium price opportunities in the organic market.

摘要:
Gum tragacanth, a versatile foodstuffs additive and pharmaceutical emulsifier, is a valuable rural crop of ecological importance derived fromAstragalusspp. (fam.Leguminosae) growing wild in Iran and Turkey. For urgent international regulatory and legislative purposes concerning gum tragacanth, more extensive quantitative information regarding its chemical composition and more accurate information concerning its botanical origin in different regions of Turkey were required. A field survey has established that the major source isAstragalus microcephalusand not the historically accreditedA. gummifer, from which only minor amounts of inferior quality gum are collected. Socio-economic and environmental benefits are attributable to this crop, a natural agricultural process requiring negligible inputs of energy and resources.
