摘要:
SummaryThe Stirling Ranges, situated 50 miles north of Albany, Western Australia, support a variety of habitats (with heat hi antis, perhaps, predominant) which have been occupied by an equally varied bird fauna: 107 species have been recorded, of which 89 are discussed in the present paper.Although the vegetation is to some extent modified by altitude, the latter has no obvious limiting effect on the zonation of birds in the Ranges.

摘要:
SummaryWeekly counts of Giant Petrels were made at Ngauranga, Wellington Harbour, from May 1958 to May 1962. There is a definite correlation between the number of Petrels at the Ngauranga freezing works and the amount of offal available, Petrel numbers reaching a maximum from November to February coinciding with the peak period of lamb killing. Counts of Petrels were compared with the weekly whale killing figures at the Tory Channel Whaling Station, Cook Strait, indicating that Petrels were generally absent from Ngauranga during the whaling seasons. The effect of migratory movements of Giant Petrels on the numbers present at Ngauranga throughout the year is discussed.

摘要:
SummaryThe downy young ofStictonetta naevosais uniformly grey in colour and, apart from being darker above than below, has no distinct plumage pattern. It is very different from the young of the tribe Anatini with which it is at present classified, The young could be considered to resemble those of the Anserini or the Oxyurini but is closer in appearance to the Anserini. There is anatomical and behavioural evidence which, with the plumage pattern of the young, shows thatStictonettais related to theAnserini, and should be considered a member of the subfamily Anserinae rather than the Anatinae.
