摘要:
SummaryThe bird life of Lord Howe Island was investigated during four visits h y McKean and other ornithologists between 1956 and 1963. Based on information thus obtained, and on that given by local and visiting naturalists over the past 14 years, the species recorded from the island now total 118, Indigenous landbirds and breeding seabirds comprise 22% of this total: the remaining birds are either migrants, vagrants or introduced species. The number of birds ringed between 1959 and 1963 was 14,661, comprising individuals of nine species. Results so far obtained from the banding programme, together with observations on the distribution and habits of certain species, are discussed.

摘要:
SummaryA three-year census, involving 40 counts, of birds Lit Lake George, New South Wales, revealed that the prevailing water level influenced the presence and numbers of certain species, particularly ducks (Anaridae) and migrant waders (Scolopacidae). Much of the waterfowl population appears to be nomadic, and the numbers of ducks are doubtless affected by conditions farther inland as well as those prevailing at the lake. Relatively few species showed a completely seasonal pattern of movement.

摘要:
SummaryInvestigations on the avifauna of the 36 aeolianite limestone islands between Dongara and Lancelin on the west coast of Western Australia were made from 1957 to 1964 inclusive. Information on the occurrence, abundance and breeding of the 60 species recorded is given. Previously very little was known on the birds of these islands.New breeding stations for two petrels, a storm-petrel, a marine cormorant, two gulls and five terns are listed. The sea-birds are essentially southern or non-tropical species. Three birds of prey, an oystercatcher, a dotterel, a heron, a duck, a parrot and five passerines also nest on the islands.
