AbstractThe equations of motion of a two‐level system and a harmonic oscillator coupled to a dissipative system are discussed; the dissipative system is assumed to consist of a large number of radiation oscillators. Special equations for the determination of the correlation functions of the fluctuation forces are derived under the condition of large time values, for which the atomic system has “forgotten” its initial state. The expectation values of the correlation functions are connected with the damping constant and the population operator of the excited state of the atomic system is in thermal equilibrium. Taking into account the influence of the coherent radiation field on the atomic system, the basic equations for the treatment of the nonstationary Raman scattering by polaritons are derived; the temporal range of validity is discussed.Using a time‐dependent “variable” Fourier transformation, the nonstationary time‐ and spacedependent spectral densities are related to the correlation functions of the fields; here the Wiener‐Khintchine theorem is applied in a nonstationary form. AbstractThe stimulated Raman scattering by polaritons and phonons generated by the fluctuations of the crystal vibrations is investigated for the transient regime. The transient gain and the scattering energy is given for the case of retarded or advanced Stokes and polariton pulses in relation to the laser pulse.Moreover, the influence of phase modulation of the laser pulse on the transient SRS by polaritons is discussed.

AbstractFor an arbitrary given distribution of dislocations and disclinations the general state of stress of a mechanical continuum is investigated. The medium is reacting with stresses and momentum stresses (Cosserat continuum). By means of differential geometry it is shown that the deformations 0ϵikand ϵikof two arbitrary materials with identical distributions of defects differ merely by a displacement fieldui(xr,t). If 0ϵikare the eigendeformations of an isotropic medium, then in the linear theory the fielduiof a Cosserat continuum can be separated from 0ϵik. AbstractEs wird eine Theorie der nichtstationären Zweiphotonenabsorption, die durch einen ultrakurzen Laserimpuls mit der DauerTL≲ ΓT−1(ΓTExzitonenniveau‐Linienbreite) und einem inkohärenten Teststrahl angeregt wird, für nichtlineare Piezokristalle mit einem isolierten dipolaktiven Exzitonenniveau entwickelt. Die „mechanische”︁ Response der Exzitonen sowie die unterschiedlichen Gruppengeschwindigkeiten von Polaritonen‐, Pump‐ und Testfeldern werden bei der Berechnung der nichtstationären Polaritonen‐ und Testfeldstrahlungsflußdichten berücksichtigt, die räumliche Dispersion der mechanischen Exzitonenbewegung jedoch wird vernachlässigt. Am Beispiel des Rechteckimpulses für das Pumpfeld werden die allgemeinen nichtstationären analytischen Lösungen für die Fälle gleicher und verschiedener Pump‐ und Testfeld‐Gruppengeschwindigkeiten diskutiert. AbstractDie Selbstfokussierung der Strahlung eines Rubinlasers im Vielmodenbetrieb, der für spezielle Experimente der nichtlinearen Optik eingesetzt wird, wurde experimentell untersucht.
