摘要:
Predictive simulation systems, embedding models of real-world processes, are usually designed as stand-alone computer packages. Users wishing to work on broader problems of extended scope need access to several models. This access can be provided by integrating several packages into a decision support system offering a coherent map-based problem-oriented interface to the under-lying models. This paper proposes the FMISDS integration approach that offers a problem-oriented method for designing the integrated system. It distinguishes syntactic and semantic issues in model integration, enabling a declarative description of the models and their conceptual relationships. The integration effort is supported by a reusable toolkit that interprets the declarative descriptions. FMISDS is demonstrated in a spatial decision support system for water catchment management.

摘要:
A foundation is set forth for use of the wavelet transform as a spatial analysis tool for modelling the geographical representation of economic and financial measures used in agriculture. This provides a framework from which to estimate a smooth nonparametric function which describes complex, multivariate relationships embedded in spatial data, with the resulting maps conveying large amounts of information in a familiar format. We illustrate this approach for tasks which include the graphical presentation of information, density estimation and wavelet-based nonparametric regression. A redundant wavelet transform is used, and we detail the properties which make it particularly appropriate for these objectives.

摘要:
In this paper a strategy for controlling error when calculating model parameter values from low-resolution low-accuracy data (LRLA-data) is presented. The basic principle of the proposed strategy is that the error in the model output can be reduced by output aggregation. By comparing the output from LRLA input data and high-resolution, high-accuracy input data (HRHA-data) at various aggregation levels, the error due to a decrease in accuracy and resolution of the input data can be assessed. An aggregation level can then be chosen so that an output is generated with the desired level of error and sufficient spatial detail. The method may also be used to evaluate the information loss when simplified models are used. The calculation of the topographic factors in an erosion model is taken here as an example application.

摘要:
In this article a technique is presented to estimate the proportions of different map categories in a series of heterogeneous mapping units, using information on the degree of spatial correlation with other categorical data. The technique has been applied to decompose ecotope complexes in a categorical map of the biotic environment in Flanders, using secondary information on land cover and soil type. Because the conditional probability of an ecotope occurring given a certain soil type depends on the frequency with which the ecotope occurs in an area, determining the probability of occurrence of an ecotope from the conditional probabilities can lead to predictions that contradict prior knowledge about the composition of the different mapping units. A measure expressing the affinity of an ecotope for a soil type is proposed and is used as an alternative to conditional probability in the estimation procedure. The proposed method has been tested in a study area for which detailed field observations were collected, and proves to work well if reliable a priori knowledge about the composition of complex mapping units is available.
