摘要:
The problem of a dipole above an inhomogeneous half space is considered. Both the permittivity and the permeability are assumed to be functions of the longitudinal direction in the inhomogeneous region. The direct field representation in terms of longitudinal or transverse field components is studied. Excitations by vertical magnetic dipoles, vertical electric dipoles, as well as horizontal dipoles, are considered. A particular representation of the transverse field, for horizontal dipole excitation, in Cartesian components is given.

摘要:
The well known Booker's concept of complementary electromagnetic structures is valid for plane, infinitely thin, perfectly conducting complementary screens situated in a homogeneous lossless medium. It is shown in the paper that the concept can be extended to include pairs of arbitrarily shaped dielectric and/or magnetic bodies, possibly lossy, of arbitrary values of complex permittivity and permeability, positioned symmetrically with respect to the plane of the structure. In this manner, further practical problems can be solved by reducing them to problems the solution of which is either known or can be obtained more easily.Particular attention is devoted to quasi-TEM transmission lines. The complementary concept is extended to include the surrounding medium as well. It is shown that many novel exact relationships can be derived between parameters of such complementary lines, which can aid in determining some parameters, the expressions for which are not known, in terms of known parameters.

摘要:
The wave-hop method of calculating propagation at LF and VLF does not use the stationary-phase relation to determine reflection height and is therefore liable to error, particularly at short distances. Stationary phase is introduced into the wave-hop calculations and examples are given of the results. The errors are frequently very small but this is not always the case.

摘要:
The construction, using standard directional couplers, of a six-port reflectometer for measurement of scattering parameters in the 75–105 GHz band is reported. The broad band performance is assessed in terms of relative Q-centre positions. Ultimately performance is limited by the repeatability of waveguide flanges.
