For a transcendental entire functionfwe investigate the connectedness properties of the Julia setJ(f) in the plane and in the Riemann sphere. We give examples whereJ(f) contains buried components, that is, components which do not meet the boundary of any component of the complementF(f) ofJf). In connection with an old question of Fatou we show that ifFfhas a multiply-connected component, thenJfhas buried components which arc singletons. Such components are dense inJf).

P. T. Mocanu in the paper [3] has shown that the well known univalence criterions for holomorphic functions of one variable, due to W. Alexander W. Kaplan, K. Noshiro, S. Ozaki, S. E. Warschawski and J. Wolf (see [1], [2], [4], [5], [8], [9]) can be extended onto the complex functions from the classC1. The same way, in n-dimensional case, we generalize the Takahashi's biholomorphicity criterion from [7] and we obtain a sufficient injectivity condition for the mappings fromC1class.

In the present paper we investigate the—as well asLp—properties of some class of operators, which generalize the Pompeiu operatorTand the Vekua operator ∏[10], related to higher order derivatives. Also these operators will be used to represent the solutions of Riemann — Hilbert problems for partial differential equations of higher order in the complex plane.

LetA1be the class of functions analytic in the unit disk and normalized byf(0)=f′–1=0. We shall investigate the integral transformwhere λ is a non-negative real valued function normalized byFrom our main results we get conditions on the number β and the function λ such thatVλ(f) is starlike of order γ(0 ≤ γ ≤ 1/2) whenfhas the property that Re[eiα(f′(z)–β)]> 0. We also find conditions implying thatF=Vλ(f) satisfies the starlikeness condition. As examples we study various choices of λ(t), related to classical integral transforms.
