摘要:
AbstractPolymeric polyester plasticizers cause less cracking in polycarbonate than monomeric esters. Certain high‐viscosity polymeric plasticizers over 100,000 centipoise, and several in the 10,000 to 25,000 range, did not stress‐crack polycarbonate. But viscosity is not the only determinant. Chemical type, level of use, polarity, and severity of the environment all contribute to crack development in stressed polycarbon

摘要:
AbstractCapillary rheometry is used to study the effect of fillers (carbon black, calcium carbonate, talc, and titanium dioxide) on the apparent viscosity of plasticized poly(vinyl chloride). It was found that viscosity shows a minimum at about 5 percent filler volume content, for CaCO3, Talc, and TiO2. An assumption is presented relating this phenomenon with the ability of filler for plasticizer absorption, i.e., with filler surface area.

摘要:
AbstractBlends from poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) and epoxidized natural rubber (ENR) were prepared in a Brabender plasticorder by the melt blending technique. The melt flow behavior of these blends with respect to blend ratio and temperature has been examined using a melt flow indexer and capillary rheometer. ENR decreases the Brabender torque, increases the melt flow index (MFI), and decreases the melt viscosity of PVC in the blends. Arrhenius plots were used to study the effect of temperature on melt flow index (MFI) and viscosity. Moreover, the flow behavior index (n′) obtained from capillary rheometer data was found to be dependent on temperature and blend rati

摘要:
AbstractThe hypothesis that plasticizer phase separation broadens glass transition temperatures when the temperature of a PVC/plasticizer formulation is raised was tested using dynamic mechanical analysis and NMR. NMR is a reasonable tool for detecting the phases. Phase separation in the vicinity ofTgis an explanation for the broadening of the transition region. But a variety of behavior is possible depending on the details of the measurement ofTgand on the thermal history of the sample. Phase separation broadening is in addition to the broadening caused by changes in the dimensionality of the damped Debye lattice described by Tobolsky.

摘要:
AbstractBauman's polymerization of vinylchloride is generally regarded as the first documented preparation. British and German patents were granted in 1912 but the period from 1931 to 1933 based on work at BFGoodrich is considered as the beginnings of the flexible PVC industry, which grew rapidly during the 1940's and 1950's to become the dominant family of synthetic plastic resins. However, PVC degrades at about the same temperature required to process it. Therefore, without stabilizers and other additive modification, it could not have reached its present preeminence among rigid thermoplastics. The first processing aid patent appeared in 1953, and the first commercial processing aid appeared in 1957, which marked the beginning of the rigid PVC industry, the development of which is described in the paper.

摘要:
AbstractSurface defects in the form of craters have been a sporadic problem for manufacturers of films and coatings made from PVC plastisols. Examination and analysis of plastisols and films from two manufacturers have led to the conclusion that frequently such defects are caused by contamination of one or more of the plastisol components by silicone oil. Silicone oil is immiscible in commonly used plasticizers such as dioctyl phthalate (DOP) and can coalesce in mixing vats or pick up reservoirs to form droplets or pools of oil on the surface of the plastisol. Distribution of the droplets onto the substrate with the plastisol can cause craters to form when the oil dissipates into the melt during fusion.

摘要:
AbstractDifferential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) has been used to characterize various lubricant additives for PVC in order to determine effectiveness. Depending on the processing period, and therefore the temperature profile, each lubricant undergoes a change in the internal vs. external nature of its behavior. In the process described, monitoring of the glass‐transition temperature produces evidence for the effectiveness of additives as internal lubricant

摘要:
AbstractGelation and ultimate fusion of layers of plastisol is a major step in producing finished spread‐coated vinyl products. An analysis of the process has been made, concentrating on heat‐up, required conditions for adequate fusion, and the associated plasticizer evaporation losses. It is further shown how the developed model can be used to help select optimal process conditi
