摘要:
AbstractThis paper presents an improved method for presenting torque rheometer data as it applies to rigid PVC extrusion compounds. During extrusion of rigid PVC, the compound is subjected to various degrees of heating, shearing, and compression. Three‐dimensional torque rheometry mapping can provide the rigid PVC formulator with greater insights into how a rigid PVC compound will perform on production extrusion equipmen

摘要:
AbstractGraft copolymers of chlororubber‐20‐g‐(ethylacrylate‐co‐acrylonitrile (2:1)) and chlororubber‐20‐g‐(styrene‐co‐vinyl acetate‐co‐acrylonitrile [1:1:1]) have been synthesized by solution precipitation polymerization technique. The graft copolymers have been characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, and viscometry. The graft copolymers have been melt blended with PVC. The mechanical properties, such as flexural, tensile strength, and impact strength, of the blends have been studied to evaluate the relative performance of various graft copolymer blends of PVC as impact modified systems. Mechanical properties of the blends have been discussed in terms of morphology of i

摘要:
AbstractThe fatigue resistance of 6 inch Schedule 40 PVC solvent‐bonded pipe fittings was investigated. It has often been assumed that the performance of PVC fittings is comparable to that of the corresponding pipe. The results of this study indicate that the fatigue performance of PVC fittings is much lower than that of the pipe. Several fittings were exposed to a repetitive surge cycle of 90 to 180 psig at a rate of 0.111 hertz. Failures of several tees occurred between 13,000 and 16,000 cycles, much sooner than the predicted lifetime of pipe under these condition

摘要:
AbstractThe compatibility of suspension PVC with various plasticizer blends was determined by means of calculated compatibility predictors, such as solubility parameters and polarity parameters, as well as actual measurements of compatibility. Then, with a torque rheometer, the temperature at the fusion peak was obtained for various PVC/plasticizer blend compositions. Finally, empirical equations were derived to relate compatibility parameters with the temperature at the fusion peak, predicting the effect of plasticizer blend on processability.

摘要:
AbstractAs a result of advances in such properties as processability and thermal stability, vinyl may now compete with ABS and many engineering resins in a broad number of injection molding applications. However, do past experiences with PVC compounds prevent molders from quoting on new vinyl jobs? What do molders think of vinyl's physical properties and molding characteristics versus other resins? Independent research conducted in 1989 questioned a broad range of molders in the United States regarding their perception of vinyl versus other resins as an injection molding material. The results highlight the fact that molders are aware of the benefits of vinyl in finished part applications, but require training to overcome the perceptions of past molding experiences. This paper shares the results of this survey.

摘要:
AbstractThe effect of adding recycled vinyl bottle flake to virgin bottle compound has been studied. Vinyl bottles contains 10 to 50% recycled vinyl bottle flake were produced on a Bekum extrusion blow molding machine. The performance properties of the vinyl bottles were evaluated, and the optimum level of recycled flake was determined.

摘要:
AbstractThis paper discusses product design, tool design, tooling, processing parameters, and machine and tool maintenance for injection blowmolding PVC containers. Product design details geometric shapes, engraving, and sharp area definition. Tool design offers pros and cons of temperature control core rods vs. conventional core rods. Tooling defines types of steel to inhibit rust. Processing parameters detail times, pressures, and temperatures to inhibit polymer breakdown that causes material burning. Machine and tool maintenance defines preventative maintenance for both, for longevity.

摘要:
AbstractPoly(vinylch1oride) composites containing 2 to 20 wt% of aluminum coated glass fiber (AlCGF) were prepared by the mechanical mixing and hot compression technique. Their electrical conduction and ultrasound wave propagation at frequencies of 2 to 9 MHz were studied. The electrical resistivity of these composites was lowered because of fiber‐fiber contact formation, which is evident from optical photomicrographs of the composites. Other morphological investigations, such as X‐ray diffraction and DTA, show matrix‐filler interaction. The limiting resistivity of PVC/AlCGF composite is 10 ohm‐cm at 14 wt% (8.11 vol%) of fiber concentration. Ultrasound wave propagation through these composites having fiber‐fiber contacts has shown that both absorption and velocity are high at 9 MHz. Other ultrasound parameters were studied, such as excess absorption, relative velocity, relative modulus variation with composition as well as with propagation constant. No definite correlation exists between electrical conduction due to fiber‐fiber contact formation and ultrasound wave

摘要:
AbstractPVC is the only major plastic that needs additives to enhance its properties. Without additives, PVC would not enjoy its robust business and wide range of applications. This paper considers how additive suppliers have been able to bring out the best in PVC in an alliance that has been mutually beneficial. The alliance also comes with challenges to meet new and expanded regulations, as well as opportunities to develop tomorrow's materials. Some emerging concepts of “Responsible Care” are presented, which concern how resin and additive suppliers will have to provide product stewardship of compounds and products throughout their useful application lifetimes and provide options for proper dispo
