摘要:
We present a Decision Support System (DSS) which was developed at the IBM German Manufacturing Technology Center for the regular use in a number of production areas. These production areas are characterized by a job-shop-like environment consisting of machines with different technical capabilities (e.g. functions, speed, availability), and a varying demand involving 20–50 different part types. The planning horizon is in the range of 1–4 weeks. The problem is to determine a schedule such that the work can be completed within the planning horizon and the total processing time is minimized. The DSS is built around a set of mathematical optimization methods using mixed integer programming for scheduling problems. It has a menu driven user interface to adjust the generic model to the particular situation and to specify input parameters for the individual run. Results can be obtained textually (e.g. inform of tables) and graphically (e.g. in form of Gantt charts). Manufacturing supervisors use the system to confirm their production plan on a regular basis. Together with the required production volumes, they are able to specify release and due dates, part type priorities and current machine availabilities. As a result, they get an optimized production plan including the part-type-to-machine allocation, the parts loading sequence, and information on the individual machine utilization. Short response times allow the user to interact with the system in order to examine alternatives or to study the impact of parameter changes (e.g. machine availability) on the production center performance. Experience with the introduction and usage of the DSS in a printed circuit board manufacturing line will be reported.

摘要:
A manager planning a distribution network faces a multiple-vehicle routing problem. The first step is to assign customers to vehicles. One way to do this is to partition a given territory into zones assigned to each vehicle. This paper presents a decision support system that enables the distribution manager to interactively design the zones at the screen using his own judgement as well as suggestions made by the system. The latter are based on analytic formulae that determine the optimal shape of a zone. This helps the planner design the zones while taking into account the speed of the vehicle, the density of the demand, the location of the zone, and a maximal duration or a maximum number of slops in a route, as well as his own knowledge of the territory.

摘要:
The Academic Budgeting and Planning Support System for the Faculty of Computer Science & Information Systems (FSKSM), the University of Technology, Malaysia (ISKABS) was designed and developed to assist academic administration in building and managing its academic budget. ISKABS will aid in planning, supports organizations with funding, through the allocation of funds assists in directing operations, and can be used for control. ISKABS will support management to go through the complete budgetary cycle of identifying budget requirements, preparation, approval and use stages. ISKABS was developed using GURU expert system management shell, Lotus 1–2–3 spreadsheet and dBASE III+ database management system (DBMS). It was implemented on an IBM PS/2 microcomputer machine. The conceptual structure of ISKABS consists of the expert system component of a knowledge base, an inference engine and a user interface, a planning & budgetary model-base using a spreadsheet, and a database management system (DBMS) for the computer hardware and software database. The knowledge base of ISKABS consists of budgetary methodology, principles, rules and strategies. Through ISKABS's user interface, users can consult the system utilizing the mechanism present in the system's inference engine. ISKABS's model-base consists of a model of the Faculty's academic planning and budgeting system using a spreadsheet. The DBMS system was used to store the computer hardware and software pricing and configurations. ISKABS was developed in response to the growing needs of the Faculty's academic administration. There is more than two fold increase in its academic staffs over the last two years. There is a great increase of academic computing demand in terms of student and staff usage, research projects, consultancy works, new course offerings and change of technology. The designer of the system view ISKABS as a decision support system with three tools, that is as a mission tool, an effectiveness tool, and an economy tool.

摘要:
In the MacPolicy project at the free universities of Brussel, a variant of the Delphi method is used as a starting point for a group decision support system. This paper highlights (1) how this Delphi variant for policy development research was previously used in a pen-and-paper version and (2) how these concepts are implemented and elaborated in a structured discussion over a computer network. Closing paragraph focusses on the from- described-GDSS-environment-derived computer supported cooperative work-project.
