A conceptual confusion might lie at the heart of the free will‐determinism controversy. Reconceptualizing the issue by positing two independent bipolar dimensions (determinism versus nondeterminism and self‐determination versus nonagentic mechanism), instead of the single free will versus determinism dimension, seems to create the conceptual space for belief in both free will and determinism. A number of recent agentic theories of human action, and a growing body of research with humans, suggest the joint action of agentic self‐determination and nonagentic causation in the genesis of human behavior. Studies of classroom climates completed in the 1980s concluded that religion, even broadly defined, is seldom discussed in public schools. This situation is inconsistent with important precedents of our society, and therefore, public schools ought rightly to provide opportunities for students to discuss religion, broadly defined, in a scholarly fashion throughout their normal school routine. This article delineates 10 logical and cultural underpinnings for religious instruction in public schools.

The purpose of this study was to explore the interpersonal values of a sample of experienced clinicians. Clinician ratings of hypothetical, value‐based therapy outcome vignettes were also investigated. Consistent with previous values research, clinicians showed greater endorsement of independence and lower endorsement of conformity in the Survey of Interpersonal Values. Clinicians' own values were positively correlated with their outcome ratings on the conformity dimension. Discussion is made of factors that may influence whether clinicians reinforce particular values in therapeutic context

摘要:
Many churches have attacked humanist in education and have managed to almost eliminate the humanist impact. Much of that assault has been either uninformed or misinformed and has unnecessarily blunted the influence of a group of educators who wish to achieve ends, such as kindness, that are consonant with the aims of most religious groups. There is a need for ministers to become better informed about educational humanism and to present a more accurate report to their congregations.

Religion may be a source of spiritual strength or a source of conflict and guilt. This article outlines the importance of assessing the religious beliefs of clients for treatment purposes and provides a format for the counselor to utilize. Because counselors may be unaware of their clients' individual perspectives, it is important to evaluate a clients' belief system from a holistic perspective during the intake process.
