摘要:
A water‐extraction procedure which is specific for a pool of P defined by a sorption model based on the Langmuir equation was evaluated in a glasshouse experiment using perennial ryegrass grown in three contrasting soils. For each of three harvests, water‐extractable P values determined at the beginning of each period of growth gave a very much better relationship with dry matter yield responses than did Olsen and Truog P values. Also, the initial water‐extraction values were as useful as the Olsen or Truog values in predicting responses over three harvests. Water extraction appears to have potential as a soil‐testing procedure for determining the P status of soils which have received fertilizer P.

Trickle irrigation was evaluated in 2 seasons on sour cherry, plum, peach, and apple. Rates of water applied were 0, 1.9, 3.8, and 7.6 liters per hour (LPH) in 1975, and 0, 3.8, 7.6, and 15.2 LPH in 1976. Peach yields were increased both years. Apple yields were increased in 1976. Leaf content of Na, Ca, Mg, Mn, and Al in sour cherry; P, Cu, B, and Al in peach; and P, Na, Fe, Cu, and Al in plum was increased by irrigation.

Phosphorus status of tomato (cv Floradel) was determined in two experiments where plants were grown in fresh or aged softwood bark or a control medium (perlitetsand, 3:1). The P concentration of plants grown in fresh bark was lower than for those grown in other media. Highly significant correlation coefficients were obtained between growth and P concentrations. The results strongly suggest that growth depression of plants grown in fresh bark is due to bark‐induced P deficiency.

Oats (Avena sativaL. cv. 3C‐W) were grown on a 2‐ha field of an organic soil, the 0–20 cm layer of which varied in Cu content from 91 to 248 ppm. Analyses of samples of the soil and the mature crop revealed that soil Cu content did not correlate with Cu concentrations in the grains or straw. The EDTA‐soluble or ‘available’ Cu content of the soil was ‘abundant’ all over the field, ranging from 200 to 1100 times the total uptake of Cu by the crop. In spite of this, soil concentration of Cu was positively correlated with grain yield, and consequently with grain uptakes of Cu, Fe and P. The results suggest that (a) large proportions of native and residual fertilizer Cu in organic soils are not available to plants, and (b) that there is little luxury consumption of Cu by oats growing on an organic soil even when sufficient soil Cu is available and its concentration correlates with grain yield.

摘要:
Recently Soltanpour and Schwab3developed an NH4HCO3‐DTPA (AB‐DTPA) soil test to simultaneously extract NO3, P, K, Zn, Fe, Mn, and Cu. In this test carbon black was used to clear the extract for the chromotropic acid method of nitrate determination. However, use of carbon black was inconvenient due to its staining and sometimes contaminative properties. The purpose of the study reported here was to determine the effect of the elimination of carbon black from the AB‐DTPA test on the extractable levels of P, K, Zn, Fe, Mn, and Cu.

摘要:
A sodium hypobromite digestion procedure was developed for total boron content of plant tissue. The method completely released total plant boron and took much less time than a dry ash method. The sodium hypobromite digestion was compatible with a modified curcumin colorimetric method. The sodium hypobromite digestion eliminated interference by nitrate, fluoride and iron, which were previously shown to be potential problems with the colorimetric method. Aluminium eliminated the interference of fluoride on boron analyses by the modified curcumin method without the sodium hypobrornite digestion step.

摘要:
This investigation was designed to compare the influence of soil pH and Zn level on Zn accumulation and yields of radish (Raphanus sativus, L.). In the greenhouse, radish plants were grown to marketable maturity in potting soil which contained 0 to 100 ppm Zn from ZnEDTA or 0 to 40 ppm Zn from sewage sludge. Soil pH was increased from 5.8 to 6.8 through additions of Ca(OH)2.

摘要:
Proponents of the “starter nitrogen”; concept believe that a small amount of nitrogen fertilizer stimulates early vegetative growth of soybeans, thereby facilitating cultivation and weed control. To evaluate this concept, soybean leaf area, plant height, fresh weight, and yield were measured over three growing seasons. Growth parameters were measured at weekly intervals during the 7 weeks following planting of ‘Bragg’ soybeans (Glycine max(L.) Merr.) which had received 0, 16.8, and 50.4 kg N ha‐1banded pre‐plant into the soil.
