摘要:
Four rates of Cycle‐Lite™ Humus ranging from zero to 50% of the soil volume were incorporated into a Lakeland loamy sand and a Matapeake silt loam. Selected test species were seeded immediately after incorporation of the humus and after a six month incubation. The Pb content of the top growth of plants grown in soil modified with this product was not elevated even though the humus contained 300 ppm of lead.

摘要:
The leaf concentrations of N, P, and K were primarily influenced by the respective fertilizer nutrient, except P, vhich also was influenced by the fertilizer N. Increasing rates of the nutrients well above those recommended for normal corn production increased the leaf nutrient concentrations, but not yields after the first increment of fertilizer. The effect of dry veather reduced yields 0.7 quintals per hectare per day and also vas negatively correlated with the leaf N and leaf P concentrations (0.01 probability level).

摘要:
Corn(Zea maysL.) and sorghum (Sorghum bicolor(L.) Moench.) plants were grown in a controlled environmental growth chamber in 11 medium to fine‐textured soils with 0 and 5 ppm Zn added. After 4 weeks plants were harvested and Zn concentration and total Zn uptake were measured. Each soil was extracted with three different solutions: (i) 0.05NHCl plus 0.025NH2SO4, (ii) 0.1NHCl, and (iii) 0.005MDTPA‐TEA at pH 7.3. Correlations between Zn extracted and uptake by corn were: r = .80, .80, and .75 respectively for the three extractants. The r values for uptake by sorghum were .47, .46, and .44, respectively.

摘要:
Results in numerous published papers are confused by deficiencies of nutrients and other growth‐limiting factors not under study. Nutrient application rates for pot experiments based on soil test recommendations appropriate in the field are almost invariably much too low. If proper attention is paid to requirements for nutrients and other growth factors, satisfactory results and interpretations can be obtained from either pot or field experiments.

摘要:
A simple technique for measuring steady‐state hydraulic conductivity of a soil is reconsidered. The advantages are (1) the technique is simple to perform as a routine operation, (2) the hydraulic conductivity for the entire field moisture range can be determined from a single experiment.

摘要:
A modified procedure for routine determination of soil organic matter is described. The procedure employs a wet combustion method of reducing the carbon in soil organic matter with dichromate in an acid media. The modification will permit 700–800 organic matter determinations per day with samples containing less than 8% 0M without undue difficulty.
