摘要:
White Rose potato plants were transplanted to nutrient solutions provided vith nine treatments of Ca(NO3)2ranging from 0 to 64 mmoles per liter. Eighteen days later, symptoms of N‐deficiency ranging from very severe to none vere observed. The plants at this time were harvested, and leaves were sampled, oven dried, ground, and then analysed for K, Na, Ca, Mg, NO3‐N, and acetic acid soluble H2PO2‐P.

摘要:
Tomato plants (cv. VF145 B 7879) were grown in a greenhouse by the water culture technique with six levels of K nutrition. The absorptions of Na, Ca, and Mg were not affected greatly by the K nutritional status of the intact tomato plants, except when the plants were extremely K deficient. The rates of absorption by the intact plants were slow initially when the plants were small, and then increased rapidly as the growth rates increased.

摘要:
An experiment was conducted in soil columns of 84 cm length and 5.7 cm inner diameter to determine the effect of degree of water saturation on the extent of replacement of sodium by calcium from the exchange sites. The experiment was performed by running 0.20 N calcium chloride solution through a saline‐sodic soil into a water table at the lower end at different rates less than the infiltration rate of the soil, thus obtaining unsaturated flow conditions. The effective or the apparent calcium exchange capacity of the soil was reduced significantly and nearly proportionally with a decrease in the degree of water saturation during the flow process. It is suggested that part of exchange sites become inaccessible during the unsaturated flow and that there must be some isolated locations away from the main water stream in which mixing or molecular exchange by diffusion is negligible.

Carrots,Daucus carotaL., were grown on both sphagnum peat and mineral soils from 1969 to 1972 inclusive. Fertilizer treatments consisted of three rates of N, of P and of K applied in all possible combinations.

摘要:
Samples of four soils having a wide range of volume weights (0.65, 1.02, 1.25, 1.62 g/cm3) were either weighed or measured by volume and extracted with: (a) the Bray P1extractant, (b) the Mehlich double acid extractant for P, K, Ca, Mg, Mn, Zn and (c) neutral N NH4OAc for K, Ca, Mg all at a soil/extracting solution ratio of 1:10. The soil test results were recorded on a volume basis in mg/dm3and on a weight basis in mg/kg.

摘要:
Toxicity of 2‐chloro‐6‐(trichloromethyl) pyridine (N‐Serve) occurred on young plants of bean, corn, cucumber, pea, and pumpkin when its concentration was at least 50 ppm in the soil. A restriction in fresh or dry weight production was the most uniform characteristic of N‐Serve toxicity. Cucumbers and peas showed visible foliar signs of injury which persisted until harvest while beans showed a temporary manifestation of N‐Serve toxicity on the primary leaves. Tomato plants did not appear to be injured at concentrations as high as 100 ppm in the soil.

摘要:
The analysis of Nova Scotia podzol soils and vegetable tissue grown on these soils showed considerable variation in heavy metal content. The lead, copper, molybdenum and zinc contents in soil ranged from 8–352; 3.0–81.1;<0.05–12.1; and 104–984 p.p.m. respectively, while vegetation showed the following range of contents for these elements, 0.8–185.0; 1.0–40.4; <0.02–1.27 and 2.6–240.0 p.p.m. The lead, copper and molybdenum in soils from roadside, intensively farmed and anomaly areas showed substantial increases in content over the lightly farmed areas. Zinc did not follow this pattern. Vegetable tissue followed the same general trend with above ground plant portions having higher metal contents than those below ground. Overall results indicated that above normal heavy metal contents in soils and plants are due to certain geologic formations and contributory man made factors.

摘要:
Nutrient solutions containing three levels of phosphate, nitrate, and chloride were applied to cigar‐wrapper tobacco (Nicotiana tabacumL.) plants growing in sand culture for a period of 18 days. Concentrations of other nutrient elements in the nutrient solutions were held constant and the solutions were applied to pots as needed to maintain favorable moisture conditions for plant growth. Plants were in the two leaf stage when transplanted and were maintained on a single nutrient solution for 38 days before treatments were started. At the end of an eight weeks growing period, plant leaves were harvested and analyzed for Ca, Mg, and Mn. Dry matter yield was significantly (P=0.01) increased when 2 mM/1 of Ca(NO3)2replaced an equivalent amount of Ca(H2PO4)2or CaCl2in the nutrient solution. Nitrate significantly (P=0.05) increased Ca and Mg content and decreased Mn concentration in leaf tissue in comparison to chloride. Calcium and Mg content were significantly (P=0.05) decreased and Mn content of tobacco leaves was increased by phosphate in comparison to nitrate and chloride.
