摘要:
Some problem areas connected with soil testing and with reporting soil test and plant analysis results are explored, A uniform system for reporting soil test results is suggested as a step towards further standardization of soil test methods within and among states. Four categories are suggested as a common terminology for soil test and plant analysis results. These are: deficient, probable response, adequate and excessive.

摘要:
The proposed procedure greatly simplifies the determination of 2% HOAc soluble P in plant tissue. Extraction with Darco G 60 eliminates the need for the H2O2oxidation of the extract. The use of vanadomolybdic acid as the chromogen results in a high degree of color stability eliminating the need for careful timing of the period between color development and transmission readings.

摘要:
Estimates of total soil nitrogen by a standard Kjeldahl procedure and a modified procedure employing packets of premixed digestion salts were closely correlated (r2= 0.983). The modified procedure appears to be as reliable as the standard method for determining total nitrogen in southern alluvial forest soils.

摘要:
Corn (Zea maysL) was grown at three locations on soil treated with Zn at two levels of soil fertility. Corn leaves were sampled at 2 stages of growth and analyzed for several elements. Yields were measured and soils were analyzed for O.lNHCl and DTPA extractable Zn and by standard testing methods for other components.

摘要:
Treatments of P, Zn and Fe fertilizers were added to a Zn deficient Wisner silty clay loam soil. Sanilac bean plants were grown as the Zn responsive test crop and tissue samples were taken 5 weeks after planting for early growth and Zn uptake responses. At maturity, yield data were obtained and composite samples of beans were taken for determination of protein quality as evaluated by percentage of N, percentage of crude protein and relative contents of essential amino acids. A growth and Zn uptake response was obtained to ZnSO4, ZnNTA and FeNTA fertilization at both P levels, while a yield response to the same treatments was obtained only at high soil P (448 kg/ha) levels. The percentage N, percentage crude protein and relative contents of essential amino acids did not change as a result of P, Zn or Fe fertilization even when yields were tripled due to Zn fertilization.

A greenhouse experiment was conducted with soils allegedly contaminated with airbourne dust containing Mg and Ca oxides and carbonates to study the growth and composition of corn, orchardgrass, and alfalfa plants. Soils were obtained from sites varying in distance from the alleged source of airbourne dust.
