摘要:
The nutrient element composition of tissue from a plant species is not fixed. Composition in the plant varies among different plant parts at the same or different physiological stages of maturity, as soil type changes, from day to day, even hour to hour on the same day due to past and current environmental conditions. These observations seem to undermine the general trend in plant tissue analysis to develop quantitative procedures that are time consuming and, therefore, foster insufficient nutrient status monitoring within and/or between different physiological stages of maturity of like or different plant parts. Therefore, until tissue sampling becomes more definitive, a digest procedure with 90–100% recovery should be more than adequate for major elemental analysis. The HClO4digestion procedures described here meet that requirement and take only 15 to 30 min to complete. N recovery was greater than 100% with the H2O2‐HClO4digestion procedure. However, when HNO3was combined with H2O2and HClO4, N was lost, although even then N volatilization occured only when digestion was extended past clearing.

Three field experiments were conducted at the Newe Ya'ar Experiment Station (northern Israel) in the summer season of 1981 and the spring seasons of 1982 and 1984. Muskmelon (Cucumis meloL.) cv. Galia plants were subjected to early and late foliar applications containing various proportions of N‐P or N‐P‐K with or without a pre‐spraying of CaCl?. Foliar application of nutrient solutions did not affect the yield or the yield components. On the other hand, some of these treatments had positive, but not consistent, effects on several parameters which contributed to higher quality yields.

Corn (Zea maysL.) is next to rice as an important food crop grown in South Sulawesi, Indonesia. However, yields obtained by farmers are rather low, around 0.6 to 1.0 ton/ha. Efforts to increase yield have been tried through the application of NPK fertilizers. A study was conducted to determine the effects of N, P and K application on corn yield and what soil constrains, in terms of nutrient elements in the corn plants, exist in the latsols found at Desa Tokka, Sinjai, and South Sulawesi. It was found that application of K significantly increased the growth and corn grain yields on the latosols at Sinjai. Without K, grain yield and the K content in the ear leaf were low. The correlation between grain yield and rate of K shows that an application of 72 kg K2O/ha together with 90 kg N and 80 kg P2O5per ha produce the best yield of 3.6 tons/ha. The K content in the ear leaf of 1.8% was related to this maximum yield.

Steam distillation of 2 M KCl extracts of soil showed low recovery of NO3‐N when compared with an automated method for NO3‐N determination. The low recoveries were more pronounced in extracts where a soil:solution ratio of 1:2.5 had been used. In extracts where the Mg2+content was in excess of 0.02 M Mg, recoveries of added NO3‐N could be as low as 25%. Increasing the amount of Devarda's alloy or using a 1:10 soil:solution extraction ratio overcame the problem of low NO3‐N recovery. Calcium salts did not interfere in the recovery of added NO3‐N.

Three materials manufactured by Cytozyme Laboratories, Inc.1(Soil+, Seed+, and Crop+) of Salt Lake City, Utah were field evaluated in Wisconsin for a total of 14 site‐years. In general, these materials claim to improve crop growth, yield, and quality by enhancing biochemical reactions within the soil and the plant. Cytozyme materials were applied to corn (Zea maysL.) and soybean (Glycine max. (L.) Merrill) at label recommendations as various combinations of each product with and without recommended fertilizers. No consistent significant yield increase or improvement in plant nutrient content was observed where the various Cytozyme materials were used alone or in combination with fertilizers.

Several phosphate solubility and availability parameters were obtained for calcareous soil samples fertilized with superphosphate, partially acidulated phosphate rock and a mixture of the two. Plant response to the fertilizer application was studied in a greenhouse experiment. The ionic product of calcium carbonate phosphate [Ca3(HCO3)3PO4] correlated best with the plant response parameters. The correlations of the plant response parameters with the other solubility parameters (CaPO4, H2PO4or HPO4potentials) were higher than that obtained with conventionally determined available soil phosphorus (P).

摘要:
A design for a photometer detector with response over a wide range of soil concentrations and which utilizes readily available inexpensive components, is described. The instrument has been used successfully to measure the turbidity of soil suspensions, but would be applicable to other suspended materials. Turbidity can be used to measure the microaggregation of soil in soil structure studies.
