摘要:
The effects of inoculation and N fertilizer on cowpeas variety Temne were studied on Njala upland soil. No specific trend was noticed due to indigenous cowpeas rhizobia, moisture stress and high soil temperature. Sixty and 90 kg N/ha showed highly significant and significant increases dry matter respectively as compared with control. Sixty kg N/ha showed highly significant increase in cowpeas yield as compared with control and 30 & 90 kg N/ha could not reach the level of significance.

The effects of inoculation and N fertilizer on soyabean variety Clark were studied on Njala uplant soil. Poor nodulation in inoculated soyabean might be due to high soil temperature and moisture stress on gravelly Njala upland soils. No significant differences were observed between inoculated and uninoculated means and interactions between inoculation and N rates were also non‐significant with respect to dry weight, N uptake, bean yield, pods/plant and 100 seed weight. Application of 60 and 90 kg N/ha showed significant and highly significant increases in bean yield as compared with control, respectively except 30 kg N/ha which could not reach the level of significance. Bean yield highly significantly correlated with N uptake (r = 0.769**) and pods/plant (r = 0.917**) but only reach a level of significance (r = 0.498*) with 100 seed weight.

摘要:
Salvia splendens‘Red Pillar’ were grown outdoors under varying fertility levels induced by slow release fertilizers. Soil and foliar nutrient levels and measurements of plant quality were recorded every 4 weeks for each treatment. Canonical correlation analysis was used to determine overall relationships between soil and foliar analysis, soil analysis and plant quality, and foliar analysis and plant quality variables. Analysis showed a high degree of relatedness between these sets of variables, with a very high degree of overlap between foliar analysis and plant quality variables.

摘要:
Allelopathic interactions play a significant role in plant‐plant, plant‐microblal interactions. Along with its importance in natural ecosystems, allelopathy also has vast implications in agricultural systems. Various allelopathic interactions including weed‐weed, weed‐crop, and crop‐crop have been observed. Because of the increased interest in various agricultural systems where plant interactions are critical, knowledge of allelopathy is a necessity. However, even with knowledge of the nature and existence of allelopathy, the proper balance of growth factors such as light, space, water and nutrients appear just as important. This paper is not meant to downplay these factors, but rather to demonstrate the existence of still another factor which must be recognized if we are to fully understand the interactions of crops and the environment. When our knowledge of these interactions is more complete, they may become useful tools in plant breeding, herbicide studies and crop production.

Two new double‐buffer methods have been proposed recently by Yuan and McLean,et al.to more accurately predict the lime requirement (L.R.) in sandy, low buffer capacity soils and in low L.R. soils respectively. The L.R. of 20 typical acid agricultural soils in Pennsylvania were determined by a 6 month incubation with a series of CaCO3concentrations. These incubation L.R. values were then compared with the two double buffer methods as well as the more established SMP, Woodruff, Adams‐Evans, BaCl2triethanol amine (BaCl2‐TEA) and Ca(OH)2titration methods to determine which of these methods most accurately predicted the true, (CaCO3‐incubation), L.R. of these soils. All methods were very well correlated with the incubation L.R. (r = 0.919 to 0.987) but only the SMP single buffer was reasonably accurate in predicting the incubation L.R. for both low and high L.R. soils. A modification in recomnendation was proposed to eliminate the slight SMP underestimation of L.R. for low L.R. soils. The two double buffer methods, BaCl2‐TEA and the Adams‐Evans method overestimated the L.R. for low L.R. soils and underestimated lime needs for high L.R. soils. The Woodruff and Ca(OH)2titration methods both underestimated the L.R. of high (>10 meq CaC03/100g soil) L.R. soils by more than 50%.

Incubation tests were carried out to identify potential rates of ammonification and nitrification in the surface layer of a sandy soil collected from both a native eucalypt forest and an adjacent mature P.radiataplantation. Tests were conducted over a range of soil moisture contents and incubation periods covering 15 to 90 days. Ammonification rate was very high despite a C/N ratio in both soils of 31, but extractable nitrate plus nitrite was only detected for the longest incubation period. Ammonification was strongly dependent upon soil moisture content and was slightly higher in soils under eucalypt where up to 135 ppm ammonium was detected after 90 days. The significance of these results in relation to the establishment of P.radiataplantations is briefly discussed.

Tracking the nutrient element content of peanut leavesoverthe entire fruiting season revealed significant changes in certain essential elements during short periods. These short‐term changes may be more influential on yield than the general changes of nutrients shown over the entire growing season. Following heavy rains in May 1976, there was a drop in the N, B, Mn and Zn content of leaves. In both 1976 and 1977, there was an observed significant and continued drop in the N, K and B content of leaves when nut fil was most rapidly occurring. There was evidence that when the elements N and K are higher in leaf tissue prior to nut fill, this may contribute to higher nut yield.

摘要:
It is of utmost need to have a quick and suitable soil test method to analyse a large number of soil samples for various soils and crops. Ten procedures for N, three for P & K and three for N,P & K together were tried on surface ( 0–15 cm ) soil samples collected from control plots of field experiments conducted on three different soil series of Delhi, with wheat,bajra(Pennisetum typhoides) and rice crops.

摘要:
A rapid modification of the “curcumin method”; is presented, which is comparatively insensitive to interfering ions such as NO3−, and Fe3+. No water elimination step is needed and the reaction time is only 10 minutes. The coefficient of variation does not exceed 0,6% at 0,1 ppm boron. When a reduction in precision is acceptable a modification is presented with only 3 minutes reaction time. Detection limit is as low as 0,0004 ppm boron without previous concentration. The problem with solutions containing F−and high amounts of NO3−, and peroxides is avoided by using 2,2‐dimethyl ‐1,3‐hexamediol in chloroform as an extractant. The method can be easily automated.
