摘要:
AbstractThis paper describes a procedure for manipulating the free parameters of the asymptotes of the optimal closed‐loop poles of a time‐invariant linear regulator as the weight of the input in the performance criterion approaches zero by suitable choice of weighting matricesQa

摘要:
AbstractOptimal non‐linear feedback laws are presented for the regulation of spacecraft angular momentum by using flywheels and by using fixed on‐off reaction jets. The control law for the flywheels takes the form of a linear combination of functions of the state, each positively homogeneous of degree 2p‐1 (p1/2); whereas the control law for the reaction jets is of bang‐bang form. The range (of the initial disturbance) over which the flywheels are capable of regulating the system and the problem of momentum dumping are also discussed with regard to flywheel saturation constraints. Finally, a control scheme combining the merits of reaction jets and flywheels is p

摘要:
AbstractStabilizing and optimizing feedback control policies are derived for the important class of bilinear systems with generalized quadratric cost functions. These policies as well as the resulting optimal costs are quadratic in the state. The optimal cost function is shown to be a Lyapunov function for the bilinear system at hand. The resulting optimal and stabilized closed‐loop system is of third order with respect to the state. One illustrative example is include

摘要:
AbstractA unifying solution is given to the problems of optimal deadbeat control, disturbance decoupling, exact model matching and system identification. It is shown that the optimal solutions of these problems can be obtained by solving a new type optimization problem. Our solution makes use of certain recent results on system structure and on geometric and polynomial theories of linear systems.

摘要:
AbstractTwo numerical methods for solving minimum energy control problem with final state constraints are presented for parabolic systems. In infinite dimensions, the functional analysis approach gives an explicit solution from which an approximation method is developed to allow the removal of the indetermination which causes numerical difficulties. The Riccati equation approach about the penalized criterion is also studied and the two solutions are compared on the implemented control laws (in finite dimensions). An example is presented.

摘要:
AbstractIn this paper we propose some Newton‐type algorithms for the numerical solution of both unconstrained and constrained discrete‐time optimal control problems. The approach followed here is based on a suitable augmented Lagrangian function whose unconstrained minimization yields the solution of the optimal control problem and the associated multipliers. We show that the Hessian matrix of the augmented Lagrangian function has a sparse structure which allows the use of an efficient decomposition scheme for the computation of the Newton's direction. In addition, consistent approximations of the Newton's direction are described. These approximations may allow a further reduction of the computational cost. Two numerical examples are repor

摘要:
AbstractThis paper will study the adjoint vector in the infinite horizon optimal control problem. The approach used is to translate the adjoint vector, by means of the fundamental solution of the homogeneous variational equation, back to the initial time. Thus, the set of adjoint vectors ‘satisfying the maximum principle’ will be formed at the initial time. This set will be called the ‘determining set’ and will then be used to ascertain conditions of optimality. Properties, applications and an example of the determining set ar

摘要:
AbstractThis paper describes a new optimal control model for predicting the inspiratory airflow pattern in breathing. The dynamics of the mechanical lung‐rib‐cage system is described by a linear first‐order equation. The physiological interpretation of the mathematical optimization criterion used in the model is the minimization of oxygen expenditure of the respiratory muscles together with the avoidance of movements with rapid changes in the flow rate. The optimal control analysis results in a relatively difficult two‐point boundary value problem which is solved by multiple shooting techniques. The new criterion yields better predictions for breathing at rest than previous models. The most significant improvements are that this model is able to produce asymmetric inspiratory airflow patterns and to predict the effects of changes in the operating level and the elastance coefficient of the system. A modified version of the model is suggested which would be able to predict patterns of breathing during exercise
