摘要:
A self-acting thrust bearing operating on centrifugal force effects is analyzed for both incompressible and compressible lubricants. A design which optimizes the centrifugal force effect is established and found to be much simpler than the designs of conventional self-acting thrust bearings. The load capacity is determined and found to be significant but small compared to that of conventional bearings.Contributed by the ASLE Technical Committee on Bearings and Bearing Lubrication and presented at the Annual Meeting of the American Society of Lubrication Engineers held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, April 1961.

摘要:
Certain approximations are made which permit linearization of the pressure (Reynold's) equation for compressible lubrication as well as separation of variables. A series solution to the resulting approximate equation is then developed to obtain estimates of the pressure and load for self-acting stepped sector thrust bearings. Numerical solutions are presented showing the optimum number of sectors, the optimum step location, and the optimum depth of the step to achieve maximum load carrying capacity. A design chart permits rapid estimation of the load-deflection characteristics for optimized stepped sector thrust bearings covering a wide range of nominal operating conditions.Contributed by the ASLE Technical Committee on Bearings and Bearing Lubrication and presented at the Annual Meeting of the American Society of Lubrication Engineers held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, April 1961.
