摘要:
Statistical techniques have recently been developed based on the method of maximum likelihood, for forming exact interval estimates of the parameters of a power function relation between a Weibull scale parameter and an independent variable known generically as “stress.”

摘要:
The variation of traction coefficient with sliding speed for 26 lubricating oils whose flow properties had already been determined was measured with a two-disk machine. The maximum traction coefficient was correlated with the flow properties. It was found that the activation volume for viscous flow gave a good linear relation with the maximum traction coefficient. The linear relation is useful in rough estimation of maximum traction coefficient from the chemical structure of lubricating oil. The flow activation enthalpy and the shear relaxation time could not be correlated with the maximum traction coefficient.

摘要:
A steady-state performance analysis has been conducted for a radially loaded swing-pad journal bearing with given initial clearance and normal load. The analysis consists of equilibrium determination of journal center displacements, pad tilting position, elastic deflections, pad load distribution, effective temperature, as well as operating clearances in bearings. Using values of statically measured shear and radial stiffness for the laminate, numerical results have been calculated for an oil-lubricated 12-pad swing-pad bearing which show that there is sufficient moment about the curvature center of the laminate, caused by various hydrodynamic forces, to swing the pad to produce a convergent lubricant wedge between the pad surface and the journal. The calculated film ratio which characterizes the lubricant-wedge-forming action is found to increase with pad load. The examples yield values of coefficient of friction in good agreement with those obtained from measured torque values in experiments conducted at IRRI.

摘要:
Aluminum-silicon alloy pins were slid against steel disks under nominally dry condition at a speed of 0.6 m s−1. Each pin was slid at a constant load for 5 min, the load being increased in suitable steps from 2 to 65 N. The results show the wear to increase almost monotonically with load, to be sensitive to the presence of silicon in the alloy, and to be insensitive to actual silicon content. The monotonic nature of wear rate-load characteristic suggests that one dominant wear mechanism prevails over the load range studied. Morphological studies of the pin surface and the debris support this contention and point to delamination as being the dominant mode of wear.
