摘要:
An approximate solution method for multilobe journal bearings that includes thermal effect is presented. The method is based on the assumption of an axial pressure distribution in the form of a polynomial, which allows the solution of Reynolds' equation by a one-dimensional finite element routine with little loss in accuracy from two-dimensional methods. A first order form of the energy equation for an adiabatic film is used to predict temperatures within the bearing, and the viscosity is determined as an exponential function of temperature. Comparison of solutions obtained by the variable viscosity method to effective viscosity solutions after Lund and Thomsen illustrates discrepancies in operating eccentricity and stiffness coefficients between the two approaches. Good correlation was obtained between the variable viscosity solutions and experimental measurements reported by Tonnesen and Hansen of eccentricity, pressures, and temperatures in a two-axial groove bearing.Presented as an American Society of Lubrication Engineers, paper at the ASME/ASLE Lubrication Conference in Washington, D.C., October 5–7, 1982

摘要:
A loaded spherical aluminum oxide rider was made to slide, while in various solutions, on a flat iron or nickel surface reciprocating a distance of one centimeter. Time of experiments was one hour during which the rider passed over the center section of the track 540 times. Coefficients of friction were measured throughout the experiments. Wear was measured by scanning the track with a profilometer. Analysis of some of the wear tracks included use of the SEM (scanning electron microscope) and XPS (x-ray photo-electron microscopy). Investigated were the effects of Various concentrations of NaOH and of water.

摘要:
The microstructure and chemical makeup of wear debris generated during short-term lubricated wear experiments is being investigated. Two types of debris have been identified: (1) metal flakes and (2) submicron metal particles imbedded in a gel-like lubricant product. The particle-gel structure was found for both stearic acid and pure dimethyl silicone.Presented as an American Society of Lubrication Engineers paper at the ASME/ASLE Lubrication Conference in Washington, D.C., October 5–7, 1982

摘要:
Four-ball wear experiments were performed with zinc di-n-oc-tyldithiophosphate (ZDP), bis [N,N′-dihexyl(dithiocarbamato-s,s′)] nickel (II) (NiDTC) and tetraoctylthioperoxydiphosphate (TPDP) dissolved in a synthetic hydrocarbon base stock. The experiments were conducted both under air and under nitrogen atmospheres. The reactivities of these compounds towards peroxy radicals were evaluated by measuring the uptake of oxygen during peroxy radical titration experiments.

摘要:
It has been shown that the squeeze-film damper can be a very effective means of reducing the effects of vibration in rotor system, particularly lightly damped system such as the aero gas turbine. However, since the response of the squeeze-film damper is found to be very nonlinear, considerable interest is currently being shown in the development of computational schemes for the prediction of the response of system which can include a number of squeeze-film dampers. Such computational schemes require adequate modelling of the squeeze-film damper in order that an accurate evaluation of the fluid-film forces acting within the device, and, hence, a correct prediction of the rotor amplitudes, can be made.

摘要:
Several alicyclic compounds, model compounds of traction fluids, were synthesized and the high-pressure viscosity was measured with a rolling viscometer. The relation between the molecular structure of the synthetic alicyclic compounds and their activation quantities for viscous flow is discussed. A useful structure-property guideline for the design of better traction fluids is presented. The relation between these flow activation quantities is also discussed. It was found that his relation could be used to estimate the pressure dependence of the viscosity from the temperature dependence of the viscosity.
