&NA;Lengthening of short amputation stumps has become an accepted, though uncommon, treatment for amputees. The time taken to lengthen the bone and wait until it has become sufficiently strong to remove the external fixator takes many months, during which time the patient is without a functional prosthesis. We describe the need and process of fabricating a temporary prosthesis, which is worn around the fixator to enhance the rehabilitation process in a patient who underwent lengthening of his short transtibial stump.
