摘要:
Decoated and Cu2+‐binding spores ofClostridium perfringensunderwent germination‐like changes followed by lysis when incubated with the following non‐enzymatic and enzymatic systems: ascorbic acid under aerobic conditions, a mixture of NADH and phenazine methosulphate, glucose with glucose oxidase, and NADH with NADH oxidase. Hydrogen peroxide formed from these systems in common is responsible for lysis of treated spores, because catalase strongly inhibited lysis. Superoxide radical is not directly involved in the reaction, because superoxide dismutase did not inhibit

The effect of plasmid RP4 on the bactericidal effect of chlorhexidine on five Enterobacteriaceae has been tested.Escherichia coli, Serratia marcescensandProteus mirabilisstrains harbouring RP4 were more susceptible than R‐strains to this antiseptic. The role of 17 other plasmids harboured in the same bacterial host (E. coli) on the bactericidal effect of chlorhexidine has also been examined. The major portion of cellulase activity ofBacteroides cellulosolvenswas cell‐associated. Cells grown on cellulose had a distinctive morphology, characterized by an amorphous outer cell wall layer with irregular, ‘fluffy’ projections. These cells had greater cell‐associated cellulase activity than the cellobiose grown cells which exhibited a smooth, distinct outer layer. Two strains ofSalmonella dublin, grown serially in brain heart infusion broth, were motile and produced mannose sensitive (MS) but not mannose resistant (MR) haemagglutinins; grown on phosphate buffered agar, the strains were poorly motile and phenotypically MSHA‐MRHA+. In adhesion tests with HEp2 epithelial cells, broth grown bacteria that were motile and MSHA+MRHA‐adhered better than agar grown bacteria that were poorly motile and MSHA‐MRHA+.
