Exophiala jeanselmeiwas isolated from two out of 75 samples of bat guano. The isolates hydrolysed urea and tyrosine, assimilated sodium nitrate and produced a zone of haemolysis on blood agar, They were pathogenic for laboratory mice when injected subcutaneously, intraperitoneally or intravenously.

Tetracycline resistant (TcR) strains of three of the major species of strictly anaerobic rumen bacteriaMegasphaera elsdenii, Selenomonas ruminantiumandButyrivibrio fibrisolvens, were recovered with an isolation medium containing 20 μg/ml tetracycline. Only two of 14 strains of these species from other sources, isolated without antibiotic selection, showed tetracycline resistance.
