The production of monoclonal antibodies (mab) toFusarium oxysporumf.sp.cubense (Foc) race 4 is described. Heat‐killed conidia of this fungus were toxic to female Balb/c mice, but this toxic reaction was not found with fractionated hyphal walls. A simple and reproducible enzyme immunoassay using a standard 9 cm polystyrene Petri dish as a solid phase was devised for screening culture supernatant fluids. Sixteen stable hybridoma clones secreting mabs of the IgM class were isolated by fusing splenic lymphocytes from immunized female Balb/c mice with P3‐NSl‐Ag4‐l mouse myeloma cells. Monoclonal antibodies produced by eight of the 16 hybridoma clones were selected and the specificity of the mabs was determined by an indirect immunofluorescence test. Spores ofBacillus stearothermophilusCNCH 5781 were suspended in distilled water or nutrient medium. A 28 μl aliquot of each was inoculated into haematocrit capillaries and subjected at different time intervals to sublethal temperatures of 63° or 100°C as heat activation for germination. 摘要:
Three distinctive colony types were produced whenFusarium oxysporumf.sp.cubense (Foc) races 1 and 4 were cultured on a defined basal medium containing an appropriate carbon source and bromothymol blue as a pH indicator. These distinctive cultural characteristics have been used as a specific and reliable method for the differentiation of races 1 and 4 ofFocfrom other species ofFusarium.

Bacteria able to degrade pebble‐milled filter paper cellulose (PMC) were detected in only two of five human faecal samples and at very low concentrations (ca100/g faeces). For another sample, the most probable number of cellulolytic organisms was 8·7 times 108/g with pebble‐milled cell walls of New Zealand spinach as substrate, whereas PMC was not degraded.
