摘要:
Calcium alginate‐immobilized lactic acid bacteria (LAB) were used to acidify milk and re‐utilized for five successive fermentations. The yeastKluyveromyces marxianuswas added to the milk in order to simulate contamination of the bioreactor. Growth of the yeast was studied over the successive re‐utilizations of the immobilized LAB. When the system was contaminated only in the first fermentation, the yeast population decreased in the successive re‐utilizations; rinsing of the system following each fermentation was effective in further reducing yeast contamination. Yeast population increased only when contaminants were added at the beginning of each fermentation. Escherichia coligrown in broth initially at pH 5.0 (pH 5.0‐grown organisms) survived exposure to inorganic acid or to acid pH plus organic acid which prevented subsequent growth by pH 7.0‐grown organisms. 摘要:
Acid and alkaline phosphatase activities of microbial films colonizing glass surfaces were studied. Films developed in water with a high organic content were characterized by a high ratio of alkaline to acid phosphatase activity. Alkaline phosphatase activity of these films was enhanced by a period of prior heating at 60°C for 10 min. Microbial films developed in poorer water exhibited higher proportions of acid phosphatases and heat treatment had a less favourable effect on the alkaline phosphatase activity

摘要:
The inhibitory effect of low levels of novobiocin on the growth ofEscherichia coliwas greatly enhanced by the presence of cationic compounds which alone produced no inhibitory effect. Diaminoacetone and spermidine were the most effective enhancers of the novobiocin effect, but N‐(2‐pyrimidinyl)‐piperazine, methylglyoxyl‐bis‐(guanylhydrazone), agmatine, 3,3‐diamino benzidine and 3‐amino benzamidine also produced marked enhancement. There was slightly less effect of 4,5,6‐triamino pyrimidine, pyridoxamine and 1,4‐diamino piperazine whilst 1,3‐diamino guanidine, moroxydine, tetra methylp‐phenylene diamine and 1,4‐diamino‐2‐butanone were essentially ineffective as enhancers of novobiocin inhibition.
