DNA was extracted and purified from 11 strains ofMycobacterium bovisisolated from cattle in Ireland. After digestion with restriction endonuclease PvuII and electrophoresis on an agarose gel, the separated DNA fragments were transferred to a nylon membrane and sequentially hybridized with three DNA probes derived from BCG.None of the three probes detected restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) within the 11M. bovisstrains, indicating a very close genetic relationship. One probe, pBCG12, detected RFLPs between theM. bovisstrains and a reference PvuII digest of DNA fromM. tuberculosisR37Rv, confirming thatM. bovisandM. tuberculosisare closely related though genetically distinct.

The incorporation of tritiated ([3H]‐) thymidine into DNA by axenic laboratory cultures of a common marine blue‐green algae and two marine eukaryotic algae was measured. Tritiated thymidine was incorporated into the cold TCA fraction of the cyanobacterium and eukaryote algae. However, only in the culture of cyanobacterium was the thymidine consistently incorporated into DNA. 摘要:
A new method for detecting salmonellas in foods within 42 h is described. This highly specific and sensitive selective motility procedure gave an efficiency of 96.8% when tested against traditional methods using more than 800 food samples. It is stable at ambient temperatures and can be prepared for use in 5 min.

A method is described for the rapid isolation and purification of bacterial genomic DNA. A total of 215 bacterial strains representing species ofCampylobacter, Corynebacterium, Escherichia, Legionella, Neisseria, StaphylococcusandStreptococcus, were lysed with guanidium thiocyanate. DNA was prepared using just three other reagents and one high‐speed centrifugation step.
