摘要:
Two randomization tests of the null hypothesis in cloud seeding experiments are compared–the Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney test and a test based on an average ratio of seeded to non-seeded amounts of precipitation. Data from the Israeli experiment suggest that the latter test is relatively more sensitive to apparent effects of seeding. The significance level of this test may be estimated by Monte Carlo methods or approximated by using the asymptotic Normal distribution of the average ratio. Sampling trials show that this approximation is adequate only when the experiment is of several years' duration.

摘要:
TheUnited States Pharmacopeiagives specifications for fill weight variation of capsules, tablets, and sterile solids to which the federal government expects the pharmaceutical industry to adhere. This paper makes probability statements about the USP weight variation test that could form the basis for a criterion for both final product release and in-process control, as far as fill weight variation is concerned. Use is made of the fact that the coefficient of variation, the standard deviation divided by the mean, efficiently describes fill weight variation. The effect of un-intentional overfill on control is considered. A certain final product weight variation specification is examined and mention is made of sampling methods.

摘要:
Recently the U. S. Water Resources Council has proposed standardization of the analysis of peak flood discharges by fitting a Pearson Type III distribution to the logarithms of the data. This action has served to draw attention to the inadequacy of available tables of percentage points of the Pearson Type III distribution and the need for better tables. Many tables of percentage points of the related chi-square distribution are available in the literature, perhaps the most comprehensive being those published by the author in 1964. These could be used to obtain percentage points of the Pearson Type III distribution, but it would be much more convenient to have a table from which percentage points of the latter distribution could be read directly for uniformly spaced values of the skewness coefficient. The author has therefore, by a modification of the programs used to compute his 1964 tables of percentage points of the chi-square distribution, obtained percentage points, corresponding to cumulative probabilityP= .OOOl, .0005, .OOl, .005, .Ol, .02, .025, .04, .05, .1(.1).9, .95, .96, .975, .98, .99, .995, .999, .9995, .9999, of the standardized Pearson Type III distribution with skewness α3≡ = 0.0(0.1)9.0. This paper includes the five-decimal-place table, accurate to within a unit in the last place, together with a description of the method of computation and a discussion of possible applications, including the estimation of the return periods of floods. Space has been conserved by giving results only at intervals of 0.2 in α3for α3> 4.8; the intermediate values, if needed, can be obtained by interpolation.

摘要:
In analyzing a 23factorial experiment, the classical analysis of variance techniques will usually be used. In doing so, one must first assume that the “experimental” errors are independent and follow a normal distribution with common variance. However, in many cases the experimenter does not really know the validity of the assumption. Here, a non-parametric approach to a 23factorial design is introduced. The technique is based primarily on the results of multiple comparisons using rank sums due to 0. J. Dunn (1).

摘要:
A short-cut rule has been devised for dicotomous data and ill-conditioned quantitative data to test for a one-sided difference between two groups. The rule is defined in terms of a critical count (CC) and a critical difference (CD). For a CC of 4, 8, or 12 the .05 rule is CD equal to 4, 5, or 6, respectively, and the .Ol rule is CD equal to 5, 6, or 7, respectively.
