摘要:
The effect of the transformation on the subsequent analyses as expressed by ANOVA tests is emphasized here in contrast to the search for a “correct” transformation. New criteria of transformation based on half-normal standard deviates of statistics which test homogeneity of variances and additivity are presented. These criteria, the maximum likelihood criterion of Box and Cox [8] and the criterion of Schlesselman [22] are compared by Monte Carlo simulations for some linear models.

Least squares estimates of the parameters in the usual linear regression model are likely to be too large in absolute value and possibly of the wrong sign when the vectors of explanatory variables are multicollinear. Hoer1 and Kennard have demonstrated that these undesirable effects of multicollinearity can be reduced by using “ridge” estimates in place of the least squares estimates. Unfortunately, ordinary ridge estimates depend on a value,k, which, in practice, is determined by the data. Several mechanical rules and a graphical procedure, known as the ridge trace, have been proposed for selectingk.

Box and Wetz [1] and more recently Suich and Derringer [4] have presented a procedure for determining the adequacy of the regression model. This procedure is extended to allow the experimenter to check the adequacy of a subset of variables in the regression model. An example is presented that demonstrates the use of the procedure.

The problem of determining tolerance regions for the two parameter exponential family of distributions has been discussed recently by Aitchison and Dunsmore [l] and Guenther et al [3]. In this paper some approximations, which are easily derivable from standard tables, are provided for the tolerance factors in one-sided β-content (guaranteed coverage) tolerance intervals.
