摘要:
The minimum variance unbiased estimator of Pr {Y<X} under the assumption thatXandYare independently normally distributed is derived. Approximations to this “best” estimator are obtained, and these approximations are suggested as alternatives to the asymptotically equivalent estimator used by Church and Harris (1970) to obtain confidence intervals for that probability.

摘要:
We indicate an estimate of the power spectrum, of a stationary time series of interest, that is insensitive to brief transient signals imposed on the series. In the case that no transient is imposed, all that one loses by computing the estimate is two degrees of freedom, asymptotically. The estimate may be computed using existing cross-spectral programs.

摘要:
A procedure for interval estimation of the shape parameter of the gamma distribution is proposed which enables the experimenter to obtain upper and lower confidence limits after each observation is sampled. An approximate lower bound for the probability that the resulting sequence of confidence intervals will contain the shape parameter is obtained. The proposed procedure may be useful in estimating the coefficient of variationassociated with non-negative variables whose distribution is skewed to the right. Comparisons with a single sample procedure are discussed.

摘要:
Sequenctial procedures are almost universally compared in terms of ASN. Sllch a comparison does not involve consideration of sample size variability; a factor which has great practical significance and could greatly increase the cost, of performing the seqllential test. In this paper it is proposed that an alternative measure to the ASN be

摘要:
The 3-Class Attributes Plan is defined by recognizing three categories of quality, say good, marginal and bad. This device makes it possible to avoid calling an item simply acceptable or unacceptable as is done in the usual a-Class Attributes Plan. The trivariate theory and some suggested forms of tabulating the plans are given. Two fields of potential application are proposed, one concerning hazardous substances in foods and the other amounts of active ingredient in dosage forms of drugs.

摘要:
The problem of calibration of instrrrments where measurement errors can be described as the sum of random walk and an independent observational error, is considered. Calibration policies, which are relevant to this error structure, are discussed, and comparisons between alternative methods are made.

摘要:
This paper discusses, in terms of correlations, the relation between coefficients of the characteristic vectors used in principal component analysis, both within each vector and among vectors. These relationships will be illllstrated with examples (1) where the variates represent a battery of physical tests related to rocket testing and (2) where they represent equally spaced observations on a continuous curve, a case related to film measurements.

摘要:
In this paper uniform confidence bands are developed for a quadratic regression model. Tables are supplied to determine a uniform confidence band for the quadratic model in which it is assumed the sum of the cubed deviations of the independent variable about its mean is equal to zero. The uniform confidence band is then compared with the classical competitor, the Scheffit confidence band. A table summarizing the results of this comparison is presented. Finally, an example is examined.

摘要:
A nonparametric sequential rank correlation test for independence consisting of a generalized sequential probability ratio test is investigated through the Monte Carlo method. The test is found to be satisfactory in terms of the power function. Comparison of the expected sample size of the test and three other tests including the fixed sample size test suggests that the sequential rank test is also efficient.

摘要:
A simple non-iterative procedure is described for obtaining missing value estimates by solving a set of simultaneous linear equations that can be written directly. The method is derived for the two-way crossed classification and results for theP-way crossed classification are also given. Following the procedure of Yates (1933), estimates of the missing values are obtained such that their residuals are zero, thereby minimizing the error mean square. For theP-way crossed classifications the error mean square may be a pooled mean square of higher ordered interactions. The procedure is applicable to other designs as well.
