摘要:

A method for augmenting experimental data to maximize [X′X] is developed. The rule is: scan a list of candidates and find the conditions in the experimental space where the variance of a predicted response is the greatest and obtain the next run at those conditions. The method is applicable for any form of the model. Illustrations are included.

Simplified estimators of the location and scale parameters of a double exponential distribution are given. Complete and symmetrically censored samples are considered. The high efficiency of these estimators relative to the best linear unbiased estimator (BLUE) make them useful in practice.

A derivation is presented of the failure rate for a system consisting of two parallel components having constant, non-identical failure rates. The system failure rate is shown to exhibit a constant-magnitude overshoot before approaching its asymptotic value, somewhat similar in appearance to the familiar “Gibbs' phenomenon” in Fourier analysis.

Two stage sampling procedures to estimate the parameter λ of a Poisson process by a bounded length confidence interval with specified confidence coefficient are compared. At each stage, one can either fix the parametertand count the events occurring in the time interval (0;t] or fix the number of events to be observed and measure the waiting time. All combinations of these two approaches are considered. Expected total durations are given for each case and it is concluded that at any stage, counting events in fixed time intervals is preferred.
