摘要:
Whenever the observations in an experimrnt must be made in somr time order sequence, there is a substantial likelihood that there may bc somo time order dcpendency in the results. In addition, it is frequently cxprnsivr to change levels for one or more of the factors in thr study. In this paper these two facts are documcntcd with personal case histories and a general method is proposed for taking these difficulties into consideration when planning an expcrimrnt. The method introduces Monte Carlo like techniques into the design of cxperimcnts.

摘要:
Many annual time series in socioeconomic systems are steadily increasing functions of time. This paper deals with an empirical approach to analyzing and projecting such trending time series from models of relative growth rates or percent changes. A class of relative growth rate models is defined which includes the linear. exponential, modified exponential and logistic growth curves as special eases. Parameters are estimated for the most part by linear regression techniques since the, relative growth rates for this class of models are linear in the parameters. The ternd curve for each model is obtained by integration and approximate-confidence limits can be obtained for the forecasts of future series values.

摘要:
The selection of the best subset of variables in a linear model is generally produccd by obtaining the regression equation that satisfies an optimality criterion. Unfortunately the statistical properties of the selected regression equations are not described by a general theory and in fact very, little is known of these properties. In this paper the different possible models are compared in ternls of a risk function. The properties of the risk function are used to study the effect of rejecting nonsignificant variables.

摘要:
Winsorized regression is an alternative to least squares for estimating a simple regression model by altering data values based upon the magnitude of residuals. Three versions of Winsorization combined with two methods for estimating residuals are compared with least squares by means of relative efficiency measurements obtained from Monte Carlo samples. Winsorization showed improvement, over least. squares when the data are taken from a scale contaminated normal distribution. Some estimates resulted in a loss of no more than 7% efficiency when no contamination existed. Two of the Winsorization methods are applied to a numerical example of real data.

摘要:
This paper treats the application of the direct method in sequential analysis. The theory, with new results, is reviewed. This includes sequential estimation after a sequential test. Next, general applications are given. Finally, a selected list of papers in sequential life testing using the direct method is reviewed. Actually, sequential life tests preceded the direct method, but life testing is easily treated as a special ease of the direct method. applications in maintainability theory, in medieal trials and quality control are covered.

摘要:
The ASS/n for curtailed and srmicurtailed single sampling by attribuirs is found as function of the acceptance probability (OC) for the binomial and the Poisson distribution. The two binomial ASX/n functions are approximated by means of the corresponding Poisson function. A table of ASN/n for the Poisson case is given ant1 it is shown that the relative error of the approximations is small. An approximation on the normal distribution is also derived.

摘要:
A technique is applied to ohtain unbiased eslimators with minimttm variance among the class of linear estimators for the standard deviation of of logistic. population with known mean. Coefficients for multiplying ordered observations are developed for complete and completc samples forn= 2(1)26. Each sample of sizenis censored from above wherem≤n. Then the smallest subset oflorder slatistics from the set ofmavailable order statistics is found which yields at list a 98.5% efficiency relative to them-order-statistic estimator. The coefficients for thel-order-statistic estimator, the variance and efficiency relative to the estimatot, using allmorder statistics are persented.

摘要:
One-sided β-content tolerance intervals for the two-parameter exponential distribution are considered. The tolernace limits depends upon factors few of which were previously available. Equations whose solutions are the tolerance factors are derived and a table of factors is presented. It is shown that the factors can be obtained with a desk calculator and standard tables. Relationship to confidence limits for the reliability is discussed.

摘要:
Thcs problem of finding the power of the hypothesis test of no drift versus the alternative of positive linear drift in a one-dimensional Brownian motion process is considered. The tests are based on an observed sample of first passage or failure times under this process. The distribution of the test statktie of Nádas [1] under thr alternative hypothesis has been found. Power of the test is given in a closed series form for odd Silmple size.
