摘要:
ABSTRACTPatients with liver disease require skilled, complex management of the inevitable complications associated with hepatic dysfunction. Portal hypertension, a major consequence of cirrhosis of the liver, causes ascites and esophageal variceal hemorrhages. Many clinical and surgical treatment options are available to manage these complications; however, they often produce only temporary symptom control and may beget further morbidity. This article focuses on the etiology, complications, and treatment of alcoholic cirrhosis. Perioperative nursing care of patients with alcoholic cirrhosis is based on an understanding of normal hepatic functions and the systemic effects of cirrhosis.AORN J64 (Aug 1996) 209–226.

摘要:
ABSTRACTUltrasound‐guided hepatic cryosurgery is a potential treatment option for select patients with unresectable tumors. Intraoperative placement of cryoprobes and monitoring of tumor freezing with ultrasonography produce complete remission in 22% to 29% of patients with unresectable metastatic colorectal tumors to the liver. Perioperative nurses should be knowledgeable about cryosurgical techniques and be prepared to participate in this innovative treatment modality to provide optimal care to surgical Patients.AORN J64 (Aug 1996) 231–244.

摘要:
ABSTRACTMost nurse‐patient interactions in the OR are of short duration; therefore, formulating appropriate care plans for accurate patient assessments is paramount. Observations of a patient's behavior without a deliberative exploration to disclose the behavioral meanings can lead to erroneous nursing diagnoses and interventions. A perioperative nurse who uses the theoretical approach developed by Ida Jean Orlando, RN, MA, will be able to identify the patient's covert needs, thereby providing timely, therapeutic nursing interventions. The article presents a perioperative clinical situation analyzed through Orlando's Interactional framework, demonstrating the theory's beneficial impact on patient outcomes.AORN J64 (Aug 1996) 254–260.
