The contents of the 1984 special edition ofCounselor Education and Supervision, focusing on computer use in counselor training, are reviewed in light of the current literature on computer use in counselor education. Implications of advances in computer technology for developing training applications are discussed, as are recent programs developed for counselor education. Current ethical and evaluation issues surrounding computer use in counselor education are also reviewed in comparison with issues presented in the 1984 special issue.

Computers are gaining acceptance in counselor training programs. In most programs computers are used for manipulating data, word processing, or, in some cases, for providing students simulation of the counseling process. The purpose of this article is to point out parallels in learning processes between some of the principles involved in learning to be a counselor and in learning to use computers. A rationale is presented for pointing out to counseling students how learning to use computers is not entirely different from learning to counsel. Seven counseling process principles are presented. Each is discussed from the perspective of counseling and computer usage.

摘要:
Modeling procedures have come to play a major role in counselor training. A substantial body of literature has accumulated in support of the use of modeling in counselor training. Relatively little attention has been paid to the use of negative models in the training process. This is due, at least in part, to the hypothesis that negative models inevitably interfere with the acquisition of positive performance behaviors. This study was designed to directly compare the effects of positive and negative models in counselor training. Results suggest that negative modeling can produce training outcomes similar to those achieved by positive models. Further investigation of the role of negative modeling in counselor training is recommended. Several specific directions for continuing research are suggested.

摘要:
The family autobiography is presented as a useful tool for counselor educators to help promote personal growth in counselors in training. A theoretical background is presented on the influence of counselors' family of origin on their counseling and interactive skills. Primary focus is placed on the concepts of individuation and triangulation in the family of origin. A description of the use of the family autobiography follows, along with the results of a pilot study on its effectiveness.
