摘要:
Research studies published from 1977 to 1986 inNursing Research, Research in Nursing and Health, andWestern Journal of Nursing Researchwere reviewed to identify those related to pediatric nursing. Sixty-eight studies in this clinical specialty were identified and analyzed for the following information: topic of research, age of group of the children, theoretical framework, data collection techniques, research design, and recommendations for future research. Trends in published pediatric nursing research during this 10-year period were identified.

摘要:
The purpose of this preliminary descriptive research was to determine if there was a relationship between neonatal behavioral responses as measured by the Brazelton Neonatal Behavioral Assessment Scale (NBAS) and lactation outcomes for participating infants.

摘要:
Persons with mental retardation need to be viewed, on a daily basis, as having potentiality. Viewed in this way, programming is never static and opportunities are provided throughout the life cycle for potentiality to emerge. A developmental approach to encourage expression of potentiality is presented.

摘要:
The effects of emotional as well as physical abuse toward children have become a matter of great concern and study among health care professionals as well as social scientists and educators. The signs and symptoms of child abuse are familiar to many professionals working with children. However, when violence occurs between parents but is not directed toward children, the effects on children may be overlooked or overshadowed by great parental need.

摘要:
Patients in the pediatric health care setting are often unable to participate in decisions about treatment choices. Because of the patient's inability to decide, proxy or surrogate decision making becomes necessary. Society dictates that parents make decisions for their children, but experience in the pediatric health care setting indicates some difficulty in the application of this dictate. The difficulty occurs when parents' decisions do not agree with health care professionals' decisions. Who, then, should decide? This article discusses some of the issues involved in answering this question. The discussion establishes the need to balance a variety of perspectives when disagreement occurs in the decisions made for children in the health care system. Nurses are the most appropriate health care professionals to facilitate balanced judgement in substituted decisions. The natural skill of nurses to seek more information, to balance a variety of perspectives, and to provide guidance for those involved in substituted judgment makes their role in surrogate decisions a vital one.

摘要:
Approximately 15% of all children will experience some type of sensory integration dysfunction. This frequently interferes with the child's learning and subsequently may cause behavioral problems. Subtle signs can be manifested as early as the first day of life as well as throughout childhood. However, this problem is frequently missed until the child enters school and manifests learning or behavioral problems. Nurses need an understanding of this dysfunction so they can better recognize early signs and then refer parents to the best source of assistance before learning and behavioral problems develop.

摘要:
Sensory integration is the process whereby the brain organizes input received from the senses into useful adaptive responses. Learning difficulties or behavioral problems may be the result of inadequate sensory integration in the brain. This paper presents sensory integration principles and provides suggestions for health care professionals on how parents can promote sensory integration. This can be the basis of parent enrichment programs.
